Sasuke is acting weird today, the Hokage wasn't really sure when it started exactly but today was super different. It's been a week since this whole change up, seven whole days and everyday that went by the raven was just a tenth of a percentage different. But today was closing in on at least two percent. Giving his cool and collective attitude that's saying a lot. He didn't mind of course because the differences he was noticing were for the better. They were talking to each other more, in fact it was almost too much, which ideally is why Naruto noticed so quickly that there was a change to his attitude.
Regardless of Naruto acknowledging the fact of differences that seem to be popping up left and right, he didn't react on it. At least not verbally, of course he would pertain to the idea but would never question him about it. He liked this side of the Uchiha, it was nice. However, there was no personal conversations, nothing pertaining to what could possibly be going on up in that head of his. Only simple conversations regarding paper work, who should go on what missions, and the occasional discussion of what to eat for dinner. Although they hadn't shared a meal together since this entire fiasco, that didn't mean they couldn't discuss what they ate the night before.
If the blonde was being honest with himself, those conversations was his favorite, there was more laughter in the air, and what he didn't know was Sasuke was aware of that. He could see the bright glimmer in those blue eyes and the way the corner of his lips curved with a higher pitch. It was rather attractive, maybe too dangerous for him to cut that close to again. From here on he would avoid any talks that would cause that much joy from the Hokage.
"Well what about tonight? Would Sakura mind if you skipped out on home dinner and ate some ramen out at the shop with me?"
Crickets...the sound of crickets quite literally filled the room. The silence was so unbearable that even Naruto was certain the noise of those insects were in his head.
Sasuke didn't know how to answer, he just got done telling himself that he couldn't allow himself to get any closer, and food was one of Naruto's openings he knew he couldn't get close to. Naruto knew not to push his limits with the Uchiha, knowing well that it could push away even further, and the last thing he wants is to screw this up.
It was impractical, and rather unfortunate for the both of them. Neither of the two wanted to upset one another, and for Sasuke it was unethical to say no as it would only cause tension, and it wasn't logical for Naruto to take back his request, it would only make things awkward.
"Sure." It was the break in the silence that was needed to mend this conversation back together. Neither of the two looked at each other and to be fair Naruto intended to avoid eye contact at all costs anyways. He knew the consequences from his own actions would be exposed if the Uchiha saw the state he was in right now. Big smile and eyes full of excitement, he couldn't believe it! Even Kuruma hummed with disbelief but nonetheless was impressed how things seemed to go in line.
The sun had already fallen below the trees, Naruto sent a message to Hinata to inform her that he wouldn't be home for dinner tonight, Sasuke felt no need as he never really went home on time or even at all most nights, of course occasionally he would attend dinner solely because of his daughter. This being one of the main reasons he wasn't obligated to say no in the first place, as he didn't quite owe it to anyone.
As the two walked side by side to Naruto's favorite restaurant, they didn't say much. The Hokage complained about it being rather chilly, and Sasuke only mocked him for not bringing his cloak to keep warm. "Tch, I enjoy wearing regular clothes every so often, you know? It makes up for the time I missed as a normal civilian." Although half of that statement was true, he still felt a slight guilt in saying that. He was grateful for his position in the village, it's all he's ever wanted, but that didn't mean he wasn't allowed to want to feel normal. "I understand." Sasuke's voice mellowed, at first he was just making fun of him for being cold, and then quite literally flipped the script by answering with such genuine enthusiasm. It was one of those, 'differences' that the blonde had been catching onto. "Y-You do?"
