It's been over a month since the news of Boruto and Kawaki's condition becoming increasingly apparent. Bodies nearly totally consumed by the filthy, yet powerful Otsutsuki. As well as his son's last unconscious state, attacking him and attempting to kill the younger raven. Nothing has changed since then but the Hokage has made more serious progress in the security that surrounds Boruto. As it is a matter of weeks or maybe even days before Momoshiki attempts his next move on the young boy.
Unfortunately if something were to happen and Naruto himself was no where to be found, Sasuke is the only other to be reached or capable of reaching the blue eyed boy in time, and maybe just maybe be able to tame him. However, Sasuke has been, one could say, MIA these past thirty days.
He's not necessarily missing but he also hasn't made the effort to make himself noticed. Naruto has sent scrolls to him on more than a handful of occasions, he's even gone as far as appearing at his home, but would have just missed him, at least that's what his wife says. "You just missed him!" Her chirpy voice would always say.
The Hokage never thought it would be such a challenge to get ahold of someone who's supposedly in the village. It never really dawned on him either if the older raven was even still in the village. Shikamaru had suggested the idea that maybe he had parted from the town, in search for more clues on the Otsutsuki, but Naruto refuses to believe such a thing as he gave strict orders to the Uchiha not to leave, in case they do decide to show and he himself cannot get there fast enough.
It was now day thirty-one, and he was at his wits end on how Sasuke had handled their last encounter. That encounter being a rather strange, difficult, and possibly inappropriate affair. Even though it wasn't an ideal situation for either of the two married men, best friends, and 'coworkers', it wasn't something that could be ignored. Although Sasuke swore to never forget, he also swore to never leave his side and yet, here he was nowhere to be found.
The blondes tanned cheeks only began to warm up to the thoughts that flustered his brain, flashbacks and backpedal strokes into the memories he so desperately tried to hide. It was easy to hide this from anyone on the outside but impossible to keep hidden from himself. He sighed heavily leaning back into his chair trying to brush those thoughts from that day they linked physically, and instead buried them with the memory of his death just outside the village gates. Even with Sasuke avoiding him or whatever it may be, he still felt that fear of abandonment whenever the idea of his death occurring was to happen again came up.
It wasn't determined whether this feeling came because of the promise Sasuke swore to keep or it was truly because he was worried of losing him. The feelings that accumulated over time since his death has only made it clearer for Naruto to understand. But the feelings that follow after were still a mystery. 'I...Love you.' That's what Sasuke said to him, whether it be true or superficial, he will never understand until he gets the chance to talk to him about it.
"Lord Seventh?" A small naïve voice echoed the office belonging to him, grabbing his attention and drawing him out of his thinking bubble. His eyes met with those same black orb like eyes, the ones he missed the most, only these ones belonged to the daughter of the man he hasn't stopped thinking about. "Oh, Sarada...come in." He said to the girl poking her head around the door. She moved in slowly but what also seemed to be cautiously. "Hm?" Naruto leaned forward in his seat with confusion.
Sarada approached the desk with what looked like sweat forming at her temples, she reached in her pocket only peaking the Hokage's interest more, pulling out a neatly folded piece of paper. Hesitantly she handed it to him, avoiding all eye contact. "What's this?" He asked as he took the paper and began unfolding it. The first thing that caught his eye was the handwriting, Sasuke's. The second thing he caught glimpse of before even reading the note was the embroidered mark on the top that goes to show this paper came from the Hokage's office. "What the..."
Blue eyes scanned over the entirety of the sheet, he wasn't sure if he was searching for authenticity of this being one of his own papers, or if there was a sign of forging. The note read....
Sarada,
I'm going to start by saying I'm sorry. Not only for my absence but for the lack of communication. I hope you understand that I'm only doing this for your safety and the village. There are too many people that care about you and your mother that reside here, that's including me. One of which I care for more so than I probably should. You're a very smart young lady, and I know you've caught onto who this person is, which is more the reason I must go. There is an opening thirty miles outside the village that has been there for over twenty-four hours. I'm taking the chance and going in to explore. If there is even the slightest opportunity to save Boruto and Kawaki and to get a head start on this then I should be the one to take it. If there are no hints or anything that will help, then at least I'll be able to slow them down. In the event I don't make it out I need you to understand that I love you. I'm so beyond proud of you and everything you've achieved, you will grow up to be a strong woman and an even better Hokage in the future.
Don't give up on your dreams Sarada.
I'm sorry but I'm also asking you for a favor. Please bring this letter to him, it's best if he receives it from you.
Sasuke~
"I found this on my nightstand yesterday morning...I'm sorry for not bringing it up sooner...t-to be honest I wasn't a hundred percent sure if it was you he was talking about but..." There was a pause in her statement, which didn't seem to change the atmosphere at the time due to Naruto remaining silent, she continued but almost trailing off. "Everyday he came by your office, but never went inside." Her knees bent inwards as if she was nervous or maybe even afraid. "Since team seven has been on headquarters duties, there hasn't been much to do, so I couldn't help but follow him every time he came in." Her eyes shifted up just to glance at the older man in front of her, searching for a gaze to meet but it seemed his eyes were in such a trance with the writing on the paper he couldn't look up. "He'd do anything for you...Lord Seventh."
