76. Pre-wedding rituals

Start from the beginning

I took out the gram flour, buttermilk, ginger, and green chilies to start with the dish. I asked our cook to take out coconut and coriander to stuff the rolls. It can be used as garnish but my brothers prefer it as stuffing.

I mixed the gram flour and buttermilk with ginger, hing, turmeric and mixed it before placing it on the stove at a low flame. When I felt the mixture was ready, I spread it on an oiled plate and added the coconut coriander mixture to it before cutting it and making rolls.

I then did the thadka and added it to the Kandhvi rolls. I garnished a little with coconut and coriander leaves. By the time I was done our cook aunty had already prepared coconut chutney. I served the rolls on a plate along with coconut chutney and took it to Hithu who was now playing with Viv.

His eyes lit up as soon as he saw his favorite snack and he literally shoved Viv into my hands before attacking his food. I took out my mobile and texted our group about the snack. Dev bhai and Annayya were in front of us in 10 minutes and I served them too while I fed Viv.

"It's not that good, but I was just hungry," Hithen and Akash annayya spoke their favorite line making me roll my eyes at them. That's my brothers. They are not Hithen and Akash if they don't degrade my perfect cooking. And their lame excuse for eating like there's no tomorrow is either they were hungry or they don't want to waste the food.

"Sure, suit yourself. I will serve the remaining to Dev bhai," I got up to bring more from the kitchen.

"Sure! I can complete them all," Dev bhai replied with a smirk while the other two looked terrified.

"I am still hungry," Hithen whined and I couldn't stop myself from laughing. I nodded at him and served three of them and ate a few when they fed me.

"Your sarees are here, Chotu. We will see them in the night," Dev bhai's words made my eyes light up. Finally!

"But jewelry? Does it match?" I asked the doubt that had been bugging me from the afternoon after Ishika bhabi showed me the matching pearl set she bought for the reception. What if any of my current jewelry doesn't match my wedding sarees?

"We took care of it, Chinni. You don't need to worry about it," Annayya patted my head. Three of them flew away after that to handle some work while I decided to help the ladies in setting the return gifts and all.

It was 7 in the evening when my brothers returned exhausted and propped beside me. I offered a massage to them and they agreed happily. Ishika bhabi massaged Dev bhai while I massaged both Akash Anna's and Hithen's heads as Vadina was taking a nap. I was in the middle of the massage when my phone started ringing.

"Ohooo! 'Aksh' with a heart and all. Not bad, Chaithu," Hithu teased as he changed my phone from one hand to the other when I tried to take it from him.

"Give me my phone right now!" I seethed in anger but that idiot answered the call and turned on the speaker making me glare at him.

"Jaan, I miss you," Daksh's complaining voice was heard from the other side making me blush. Four of them had teasing smiles on their faces as they looked at me wiggling their brows.

"I miss you too, Aksh. I wish you were here to hit someone on my behalf," I gritted my teeth as my brothers made some monkey faces irritating me.

"Who offended my Jaan, now? Should I come there?" He asked immediately and I nodded like an enthusiastic kid.

"Stop nodding like a goat and you Mr. Chauhan, stop making excuses to meet your wife. No one is going to eat her here. She will call you later, bye!" Annayya said and cut the call with an irritated face making me look at him weirdly.
