The sun hung high in the sky, casting a golden glow over the endless stretch of highway ahead. I gripped the steering wheel with a sense of purpose, the familiar melody of 90s R&B filling the car and stirring memories of carefree days spent with my mom. Each note seemed to carry with it a piece of my past, a reminder of the adventures we embarked on together.

Beside me, Reign shifted in his seat, his restless energy evident as he gazed out the window at the passing scenery. The breeze kissed his face, adding to the sense of freedom that enveloped us as we drove down the open road.

I glanced over at him, taking in the furrow of his brow and the slight frown that tugged at his lips. He reached out to lower the volume of the music, breaking the comfortable silence that had settled between us.

"how much longer we gotta be on this road?" His voice was laced with impatience, his frustration showing in the way he drummed his fingers against the armrest.

I chuckled, a hint of amusement coloring my tone as I glanced at the dashboard clock. "We got 'bout anotha 45 minutes, baby," I replied, keeping my eyes focused on the road ahead.

Reign let out a groan, his irritation coming to the surface. "But we been drivin' for like two hours already," he complained, his annoyance evident in the way he slouched in his seat.

I shot him a playful glare, my lips curling into a smirk. "Quit actin' like a lil' ass kid, Rei," I teased, reaching out to grasp his hand in mine. "We almost there, just  be patient for me"

He grumbled under his breath, but the tension seemed to melt away as I pressed a soft kiss to the back of his hand. His gaze softened, a hint of a smile tugging at the corners of his lips as he leaned back in his seat.

"Fine, I'ma try to be patient," he muttered, his tone clipped but affectionate. "But next time, let a nigga know where we headed before draggin' me outta bed."

I chuckled, squeezing his hand reassuringly. "Gotchu. Just trust me, aite?"

As the miles stretched on and the rhythm of the music filled the car, I felt a sense of contentment wash over me.

The highway goes on seemingly endlessly, the rhythm of the road bringing us into a comfortable silence. Reign's curiosity gets the best of him, and he turns to me with a question that's probably been on his mind.

"So, wassup with yo' obsession with these long-ass drives?" His voice cuts through the stillness, his curiosity showing with a hint of skepticism.

I glance at him, considering my response carefully. "It's like a escape, you know? Helps me clear my mind," I admit, my gaze returning to the road ahead. "Life at home cuh be... overwhelming sometimes."

Reign nods in understanding, sympathy flickering in his eyes. "Do you always have a destination in mind, or do you just be driving?"

"Sometimes I just drive, no destination in mind," I reply honestly, a hint of nostalgia creeping into my voice. "But most of the time, I end up goin' to places I remember from when I was a kid, places I went with my mom."

Reign's next question catches me off guard, his voice softer now, laced with concern. "You be goin to visit her grave?" he asks, his eyes searching mine for answers.

I shake my head, a pang of guilt tugging at my heart. "Nah, not really," I admit, my voice barely above a whisper. "But these drives... they help me rememba her."
