"They warn us not to make homes out of people.

They say it will hurt too much while they're gone.

But what are these beating hearts good for

If not to be a place for others to belong?

My heart is a home with many rooms

With empty places for people to stay,

And sometimes we are lucky and find ones

Who remain with us even when they are away.

I'm forever making homes out of people,

Scattering bits of myself in the ones I trust.

And yes, it's messy but trust me it's better

Then keeping them to myself to collect dust.

There are parts of others you need to take care of

And parts of yourself you need to give,

And while missing people is like being homesick,

I think this is how we are meant to live.

Because we all have certain people

That for some reason feel like the safety of home.

It's true that without them you might feel lonely

But at least you are not doing life alone."

Itachi missed his siblings.

Objectively, he knew that what he did was necessary at that time. Although after years of living with that decision, of seeing the obvious answers that were hidden in the layers of Konoha's political scheme, he knew that the decision he'd made was the wrong one.

And he'd regret it until his very last breath.

He closed his eyes, head thumping against the headboard in his room. Kisame was snoring so loudly it came through the walls, making Itachi smile fondly.

If there was one good thing about joining the Akatsuki, it was meeting Kisame.

The man had quickly become one of his closest companions. He wasn't on the level that Makoto or Shisui was, but Itachi viewed him as a brother in arms.

When Itachi finally brought down the Akatsuki, he hoped Kisame would join him.

(Quietly, he hoped he would be able to go home. See Sasuke. See Makoto and Asami and Naruto.
