Longing

You see me as the person I've become. Yet I see myself as the person I long to be.

Strong and weak, maybe even cold, but distance and time have put these thoughts on hold.

Barely making it by while helping others save themselves to a future so bright, what a lovely torture I've subjected myself to.

I keep myself locked in time in case pennies turn into dimes, and I don't have to worry about things.

The person I long to be strives in independence and makes their bed before they leave.

The person I've become is a soulless wandering bum who makes a grave and lies in it.

The person I long to be stands above who I am, and I help them succeed in their journey while I suffer.

Oh, what a lovely torture I've subjected myself to.
