Chapter 17

THE UMBRELLA ACADEMY-SEVEN YEARS AGO
[Luther walks around the empty house, he looks into his siblings rooms which are empty and eats breakfast alone. Then he rides the bicycle around the house.]
"Ok. That's just sad." Said Klaus.
Reginald: (O.S.) Attention, Master Luther. Mission alert. I repeat, mission alert.
Reginald's mission
Reginald: There's a biochemical substance, unknown, but dangerous, especially in the wrong hands. As my Number One, I need you to deal with the threat.
Luther realises what mission this is and winces.
Luther: I'm ready. But, uh... Yes? You don't need to call me by my number anymore.
Reginald: Why not?
Luther: Because I'm the only one left.
Reginald: Ah.

[There is sound of gunfire. Then we see Luther is walked into house with stretcher.]
Reginald: Hurry! Let's get him inside. Get that gear off him. [Grace takes the gear off.]
"What happened?" Asked Allison.
"I was injured." Said Luther. Allison decided to not press it and watch.
Reginald: Paddles. Quickly!
Grace: Again. [Grace shocks him.]
Reginald: Damn it! Bring me the serum. Pogo. [Pogo walks toward him and Reginald takes the serum from him and stabs Luther with it. Luther gasps awake, now with gorilla body. Luther screams.]
Allison comfortingly places her hand on Luther's arm.
THE UMBRELLA ACADEMY-PRESENT
[Luther wakes up. Allison is sitting on bed next to him. Luther turns away.]
Allison: There's something you have to see. [Allison walks out. Luther follows.]
[They walk to Grace.]
Allison: The two guys last night, the ones with the masks... They did this to her. [Grace has her arm open and wires cutted.]
Diego winces.
Allison: It has to do with Five somehow. I mean, they were looking for him.
Luther: I know I was arguing to turn Grace off, but it doesn't make seeing her like this any easier.
Allison: Poor Diego. I mean, this is gonna be so hard on him.
Luther: Yeah, it's hard on all of us.
Allison: Luther...
Luther: Yeah?
Allison; Are you okay  You know you can talk to me.
Luther: I don't want to discuss it. [Luther tries to walk away, but Allison stops him.]
Allison: Hey, no. (sighs) Don't do that. Don't shut me out. When I left, you were still... (sighs) I mean, what... what happened?
Luther: Dad sent me on a mission. And it went, um... badly. I almost died. He saved my life.
"That sums it up." Said Ben.
Allison: Why didn't you tell me? (sighs) I... I could have helped you through it.
Luther: I was fine. All right? I am fine. I don't need any help.
Siblings look at Luther sadly.
Allison: People are attacking our family. I mean, come on. Talk to me. [Allison touches his face.]
Luther: I can't. I... Please. Just leave me alone. [Luther walks away.]
LEONARD'S HOUSE-MORNING
[Vanya is sleeping on sofa. She wakes up.]
Leonard: I hope I wasn't being too loud.
Vanya: Oh, I'm so sorry. I must have fallen asleep last night.
Leonard: It's okay. You were exhausted. I would've let you sleep all day, too, but...
Vanya: (gasps) Rehearsal.
Leonard: Rehearsal.
Vanya: Oh, shit.
Leonard: What?
Vanya: I thought I'd be going home last night, so I left my refill. Stupid!
Leonard: So you stop by on your way.
Vanya: There's no time. It's just... I really need it for my nerves. I've been taking it since I was a kid.
"Skipping one day won't kill you." Rolled his eyes Diego.
Leonard: For one day, I think you'll be fine.
Vanya: (sighs) Yeah, you're right. I'm sorry.
Leonard: Hey, let's make a deal. Around me, you don't have to apologize just for existing. (chuckles softly) It's a beautiful day. Come on. I'll walk you to rehearsal.
Vanya: Is it on your way?
Leonard: Not at all.
STREET-DAY
[Leonard and Vanya are walking in streets.]
Vanya: Thank you for listening.
Leonard: Mm-hmm.
Vanya: I'm sorry I kept you up so late.
Leonard: You're doing it again.
Vanya: Force of habit.
Leonard: Hm.
Vanya: When I was a kid, I felt like I had to apologize for even breathing.
"I'm sorry you felt like that. You are important ti Vanya. You don't need superpowers for it." Said Allison.
Leonard: Tell me about it. I don't think my dad ever forgave me for being born.
Vanya: What about your mom? Leonard: She wasn't really in the picture. [Vanya sees Helen.]
Vanya: Hey, Helen. [Helen ignores her. Vanya sighs.]
Leonard: Friend of yours?
Vanya: First chair.
Leonard: And that is...?
Vanya: Oh, it's... (chuckles)
Leonard: What is that?
Vanya: It's like the quarterback of the violin section.
Leonard: (chuckles) Oh. I know football.
Vanya: She has the solo at the concert next week. She's yet to be unseated for... (inhales sharply) ...five years. It's kind of a thing.
Leonard: Well, want me to try? I could try. I've been practicing. I'm getting good.
Vanya: Thank you for everything.
Leonard: Hey, maybe you can thank me over a dinner. We never got to have our last one.
Vanya: Yeah, I'd love that.
Leonard: Perfect. (chuckles) Well... good luck.
MOTEL ROOM-DAY
Cha-Cha: Number Five, where is he? [Cha-Cha is chocking Klaus.]
Hargreeves sibling glare at Cha-Cha mourderously.
"When i get out of here, i'll kidnapp her and I'll show her what real torture looks like. I'll reduce her life to unending sequencues of agonising torture. And when i finally get bored of her, i'll feed her to dogs!" Said furious Cora. Five looked at Cora impressed, Allison and Vanya look horrified.
"Aww. You would do it for me?" Cood Klaus.
"Of course. No one tortures my brother." Said Cora kissed his head.
"I knew i was your favourite." Said Klaus.
"I don't have favourites." Said Cora.
"You don't have to lie to spare their feelings. Everyone knows i am." Said Klaus. Cora rolls her eyes amused.
Klaus: Don't... stop... I'm almost there.
Cha-Cha: Is that a...?
Klaus's sibling look at him incredously.
"Really, Klaus?" Said Ben.
"You are crazy" said Diego.
"Klaus, seriously? You are kidnapped and are being tortured!" Said Cora. Klaus shruggs.
Hazel: Yep. [Klaus moans. He is coughing and gasping.]
Klaus: (groans) Oh! Ah, there's nothin' like a little... stranglin' to get the blood flowin', am I right? [Klaus chuckles.]
Hazel: What is so funny, you asshоlе? [He slaps Klaus.]
"I'll take care of him, too." Glared Cora.
"I thought you liked him." Said Klaus.
"Not anymore!" Said Cora.
Klaus: Ow! Well, for one... you spent the last ten hours... beating me senseless, and... you've learned absolutely nothing. I mean, nobody tells me shit. The truth is, I'm the one person in that house nobody will even notice is gone. You assholes kidnapped the wrong guy!
"That's because you are always running away and disappear for days. It doesn't mean we don't care about you, we are just used to you disappearing." Said Cora. Klaus smiled at her.
[Klaus laughs. Hazel slaps him on the head.]
Klaus: Ow! I'm sorry, okay?
Hazel: Please make him stop talking.
Cha-Cha: Let's waterboard him. [Cha-Cha covers his face with cloth, while Hazel pours water on him. Klaus grunts and gasps.]
Everyone is raging. Diego is clenching his knives and Five looks like he has killed them in his head, at least, twenty-five ways. Cora is clunching her hands so hard, it runs white.
"Will i still be ghost when i get out of here? I have something to do." Said Ben and looked at Cha-Cha and Hazel murderously.
[Then Klaus starts drinking it.]
Klaus: Ah! Oh, I needed that.
Hazel: Come on!
Klaus: I was... ( belches )...so parched. Thank you. ( laughing ) Thank you. Oh, God, this is brutal. Oh!
Hazel: What the hell is wrong with that guy?
"He is hiding his pain behind jokes and laugh like always." Said Cora, frustrated she can't do anything, but watch.
[Hazel and Cha-Cha are talking in bathroom.]
Cha-Cha: He's a freak like his brother.
Hazel: Everyone else in that house. Just another example of management stickin' it to the working man. [Hazel watshes his face.]
Cha-Cha: Come on, not this again.
Hazel: They should've warned us this was an atypical assignment. Hello? Hazard pay?
Cha-Cha: We do the job and we move to the next. Just like we always do. Remember Trinidad? We worked that guy solid for what? Two days, two nights?
Hazel: (clicks tongue) How could I forget Trinidad?
Cha-Cha: Attaboy. Let's go. [Hazel puts his mask on.]
Hazel: (exhales) All right! Come on, Hazel!
