Burn me like a cigarette

To keep you warm at night

Casting a faint orange glow across your face

From that smoldering tip, breathe in all I am

A sickeningly sweet smoke

Like nicotine darling, do I make you come alive?

Twisting and writhing in the air

From phantasmal hearts, hooks

To lasso a beloved sky for you

Kiss in the cradle of the Big Dipper

To pull away again

Scatter the remains of our moment

To float up among the stars

So we might join them

An ever-freezing, suffocating space

Breathe that warmth past my lips

Finding oxygen in inhales

Of your familiar, almost floral scent

Carried through my lungs,

My blood, my chest

High off of all you are

Until we must descend once more

Car horn and the night cold

Shattering that momentary space we made for ourselves

To fall in chromatic shards

Built a mosaic of all we've had

Collide our texts and smiles

Cross our dark nights with the gentle graze of our hands

Held together by week long spans

That unite us again and again

Until it rusts over

The image beautiful even eroded

Like Atlantis, these relics

Persisting through change

So even in the darkness

I might still whisper your name
