Cancer causes almost 459 000 deaths every year in the Eastern Mediterranean Region. Cancer is the second leading cause of death worldwide, representing nearly 1 in 6 deaths globally. Almost 734 000 individuals are diagnosed with cancer every year and in 2040 it is predicted that the number of people being diagnosed will be about 50% higher.
