song of the chapter:
iced coffee - red velvet

—— them

"IT'S ONLY NINE-THIRTY, why are we going out so early?" Jungwon grumbled, as the pair began to walk down the busy streets, hands stuffed in his pockets.

"I need my coffee," Haejin excused, peering around her, appearing to be looking for something. "Where's that café you were talking about?"

"It's called NeoCoffee. One of my dad's friends owns it" Jungwon said, as they manoeuvred their way through the streets of Sangang. "It's also really close to our school, my mates and I like to hang out there after practice" he added ecstatically.

"That's really amazing," Haejin added dryly. "Like I care." He rolled his eyes at her. "Wow, your personality really doesn't match your face."

Haejin paused in her steps, looking up at him. "Are you judging me right now?" she sternly asked, her voice reeking of suspicion. His eyes darkened and he smirked. "I mean you look so cute but your actually so mean" he flicked her forehead.

NeoCafe was a cozy, intimate café, with a flow of easy going chatter echoing throughout the cafe. The pair took a seat at a two seater table, with high barstools. As they flicked through the menu's, a comfortable silence settled between them.

"I'm ready to order," Haejin said, setting down her menu on the table. He got the attention of a nearby waiter, and quickly told him the order. "We'll take one hot caramel latte and one iced coffee please. And be quick please," Jungwon said, saying the last line while looking at his watch.

The waiter nodded, before collecting their menu's. Almost as quickly as he had left, a tall man with ashy blonde hair and handsome features approached the two, dressed in a spotless white suit with gold accents.

"Won!" he happily said, placing his hands on Jungwon's shoulders and smiling happily down at him. "What brings you here today!"

"Ah, Taeyong!" said the surprised boy, looking up at him then looking at the girl in front of him. "Nothing much, just came here to discuss about a school project" he shrugged it off.

Taeyong beamed. "I'll leave you to it. Give my greetings to your father, won't you" he shot a warm glance towards the boy and towards Haejin, who responded with a small smile. "Of course," Jungwon reassured, nodding as he walked off.

The same waiter promptly returned with their drinks, Haejin thanking him as he rushed off. "I didn't know we were here to discuss our project," Haejin sarcastically said, once they were alone.

"I thought that's what you were wanting to talk about" Jungwon replied with a careless expression, sipping on his iced coffee. "I told you I had it covered. It's all finished," Haejin said. "That's good, I think we are presenting on Tuesday" he said.

Haejin wasn't worried. "I'm more worried about the hockey match on Friday than our biology results" she said, glancing down at her drink which she was slowly stirring with her spoon. "What's there to be worried about?" he asked. "You're versing KimNamJoon High, right?"

Haejin nodded. "They are really good, according to what I've heard. I just hope we can pull off a win. It's our first match, and I really want to give it my all." He smiled at her words. "They are good, but you guys are way better."

"You know Principal Joon, right?" Jungwon asked, and Haejin pondered, before nodding. "Well he founded their school, and then left them for us. Imagine" he cracked up, breaking into peels of laughter.

Haejin judged him, looking him up and down in disgust. "It really isn't that funny." The boy stopped laughing, wiping some tears away. "You're right. It isn't."

He swirled his straw around in his drink, before looking up at her. "What is it you wanted to talk about." He switched up, sounding serious as ever.

Haejin cleared her throat, before moving her drink in front so her chin could rest comfortably on her elbows. "I don't want anyone finding out about this."

"Wow, straight to the point," he said, with a playful smirk. She sighed, eyes darkening. "I'm being serious here. Do you know how difficult my life will be once all of your little girlfriends find out we've kissed?! It's going to be hell for me and I am not prepared for it."

He shrugged. "I don't care. The whole world can know, what's there to be ashamed of." She scoffed. "You might have nothing to lose, but I have heaps on the line here. And if my dad finds out it's going to be even worse!"

"So you don't want all of this being leaked? Fair enough. Do you want to put an end to this, as well?" he asked, pointing between the pair of them. Haejin took a sip from her drink before placing it down.

"This" she began, indicating between them. "Is a distraction. Unfortunately, I'm not looking for a distraction right now."

"Is there anything I can do to make it up to you?" he asked, with big eyes. Haejin sighed, not knowing quite what to say. "We aren't that close. Let's not make this personal."
