I RAN DOWN the stairs, clutching my bag pack tightly on my right shoulder. My slippers made a muted pattering sound as I raced down the stairs, sharply turning at the end.

"Dad!" I exclaimed, seeing my father in the kitchen. It seemed like he was baking something. "You're back early!"

"Morning to you too," he said sarcastically, taking out a tray of what seemed like cinnamon scrolls from the oven. "I made you breakfast!"

"Thanks," I said, taking a small carton of milk from the fridge before sitting down on the seats near the front counter. "What happened to your shift?"

"Well," he said, taking a few cinnamon scrolls from the baking pan and putting them on a plate in front of him. "I've decided to cut my shifts only to working hours so I can spend more time with you! I don't like it when you're home alone too much" he said, glazing the cinnamon scrolls with a sugary syrup. "Do you want strawberries as well?" he asked, and I nodded.

"Is your income going to be affected by this change?" I asked, biting my straw. My dad looked up at me, then back down at the strawberries he was washing in the sink. "Of course it will," he said, with a small smile. "That's why I've managed to bag you a part time job!"

The straw fell out of my mouth as it opened in shock. "Really? Where?!" I asked. I was half shocked and half happy. Of course, I've always wanted a part time job. My own money to spend on whatever I want?! Plus, it's experience as well, which will look good on my cv for future applications. But, I also wanted to do well in school, now that I was also a part of the hockey team. Would this job eat into too much of my personal time?

"Mama Suh's convenience store. It's near the more richer side of the neighbourhood, on the other side of your school" my dad said, placing the plate of cinnamon rolls and strawberries in front of me. "You can start whenever you want!" he said, tightening the apron around his waist.

"Can I start today?" I asked, through bites. "I have hockey training on Friday until four thirty, is that ok?" My dad nodded. "You only need to do three hours each day! I'll let them know your starting today!"

"You can go straight after school," he said, getting a few potato's out from the cupboard. "I'll have dinner ready!"

After I gobbled down my breakfast, I bid goodbye to my dad and began my walk to school. I wanted to get there a bit earlier.
