I woke up the following day knowing my lies about Mia would make people detest me. It bothered me, but a twisted part of me didn't care. I seldom wished for my ex back, particularly after causing her misery.

As I reached for my phone on the bed counter, I hesitated before unlocking it. A flood of messages and comments appeared beneath a photo of Bree. They all said things like "break up, she's a slut" and other harsh things. I felt guilty and regretful since Mia was sweet and had never done anything to deserve this.

I got out of bed and stared in the mirror for what seemed like an age, overwhelmed.

I stared at my reflection, missing the vibrant red hair I used to have. It's funny how no one noticed the change, not even my best friend Jia. She had been acting strange since yesterday, not texting me or reaching out. It was unlike her, and it left me feeling puzzled and concerned.

I texted Jia again but received no response. Frustration built up inside me, and I couldn't help but throw my phone on the bed. This wasn't like Jia, especially considering she was staying with her family's friend.

Feeling uneasy about the situation, I got dressed for school. I opted for a casual look, throwing my hair up in a messy ponytail and deciding to go makeup-free today. I assembled my outfit and then put on my shoes before heading downstairs.

Walking down our mansion's vast glass steps elevated the morning hustle. When I approached the front door, I saw Cain with a wicked grin and dimples.

Walking down our mansion's vast glass steps elevated the morning hustle. When I approached the front door, I saw Cain with a wicked grin and dimples.

"What are you doing here, Cain?" I asked, my surprise evident in my voice and expression. His unexpected presence left me stunned.

"Aurelia, I heard you calling me for help," he replied, his smile never faltering. His response caught me off guard, and I couldn't help but stare at him, feeling a mix of confusion and disbelief. "Help?" I repeated, shaking my head. "What are you talking about? You're joking, right?"

Cain chuckled at my reaction, his playful demeanor shining through. He admitted to teasing and wanting to see the reaction with a mischievous twinkle in his eyes.

With my hands on my hips, I gave Cain a skeptical look. "Okay, Cain, enough games. What's the real reason you're here?"

A sly grin played on his lips as his gaze lingered on my makeup-free face. "I couldn't help but notice how stunning you look without any makeup on," he said, licking his lips.

After his flirty reply, I hit him on the shoulder. "Enough with the compliments, Cain," I said, closing the door behind me. He got on my nerves, but there were more important concerns.

"Your friend Jia is in trouble," he admitted, his tone turning serious. My worry surged to the surface, and my eyes widened. "What do you mean she's in trouble?" I asked, my concern evident in my voice.

"A werewolf pack has taken hold of her," Cain revealed, his sadness palpable. The weight of his words hit me full force, and a surge of determination coursed through my veins. "We're getting her back," I declared, already turning to walk away.

As I stepped forward, Cain stopped me by grabbing my arm and turning me around to face him. He pulled me into a warm embrace, his hand patting the top of my head.

"We will get her back, Aurelia," he reassured me, rubbing my head in a comforting manner. "But we did miss school for you yesterday."

I let out a small chuckle, not concerned about the missed day of classes. "I'm a junior in high school, Cain. I'll survive," I remarked. But then, my voice turned as I looked him in the eyes.

"Jia is like family to me. If she's in danger, I won't rest until we bring her back," I stated, the weight of the situation settling in.
