Stay Gold

Bone to bone
Head to toe
Heartbeat to heartbeat
And here I go
The dread has gripped me
I jump up
The time is now
And my eyes shut
Yellowed memories
Skies of gray
It never mattered anyway
Springs of green
My old swing set blanketed in rust
Sinking to grief as we turn to dust
Places mysterious and things unknown
How we must fervently atone
In fear of that from which we were created
In fear of everything yet, but stone
Summer sunsets
Devastating fights
Shimmering golden stars
And cries at night
The star struck child
The heartbroken teen
The beautiful infant
Still gold, yet mistaken green
Polluted hearts
And poisoned minds
Fear-gripped hands and troubled eyes
All tell stories of the past, of events
Yet to happen
Watery sunshine
Reflected back in ponds
Infinite freedom
Comes with eternal bonds
The grievously shocking truth
The captivating lie
Go hand and hand
Yet can't see eye to eye
Never had I thought of such a devastating truth
Though the actuality of the world comes with my reseeding youth
And as I look out at the world
I see memories embroidered bold
Stay that way
Hold your hue
"Stay gold"
