Weeks later

The oblivion

Mia was completely absorbed in her work, her eyes glued to the vibrant screen of her iMac. All of a sudden, the tranquility of the room was shattered by the forceful swing of her office door, which burst open without any warning. Caught off guard, Mia's gaze instinctively lifted, locking eyes with the imposing presence of Charles Princeton and his two burly bodyguards. They confidently advanced towards Mia's office table, their footsteps resonating on the polished floors, as if they owned the place.

"What makes you think you can just barge in my office like that?" Mia questioned, her voice surprisingly calm despite the intrusion.

"I'm the son of the Mayor and soon-to-be mayor of this city," Charles responded, his tone dripping with entitlement. He smirked, clearly expecting Mia to back down.

"And so what? I pay my taxes." she stated defiantly. "This place is mines, so you knock before you enter."

"So what is that do you want?" Mia questioned, her curiosity piqued. Charles tilted his head, signaling to his bodyguard to hand Mia an envelope. Mia's gaze locked onto the guard, a silent challenge in her eyes. Sensing her refusal to take it, the guard placed the envelope on her desk instead. Mia's eyes shifted to the envelope, her curiosity piqued. She looked up at Charles, raising an eyebrow in question, waiting for an explanation.

"I wanted to personally invite you to my wedding," Charles finally explained, his voice tinged with a hint of pride. "Perhaps you've heard about it, it's in a few weeks from now."

Mia couldn't help but let out a sarcastic chuckle. "Congratulations, it'll be an honor to attend such a grand spectacle," she responded, her voice dripping with sarcasm. Charles's smile faded into a frown, clearly not getting the reaction he had anticipated. "I knew you were a fan, but at this point, it's just downright hilarious."

"That smile on your face is temporary, Michaela." He stated confidently.

"Princeton, if I was to stop smiling, it would've been a long time ago" Mia smiled brightly.

"We'll see," Charles said with a hint of uncertainty in his voice as Leah walked into the room, clearly not expecting to find Charles there.

"Charles?" Leah asked, her expression filled with surprise as she walked past him, heading towards Mia's office desk.

"Leah," Charles nodded in acknowledgment. As Leah greeted Mia with a warm smile, she leaned in and planted a tender kiss on Mia's lips. The scene unfolded before Charles, leaving him taken aback by the unexpected display.

Curiosity got the better of Leah as she turned her attention to Charles. "What are you doing here?" she inquired.

"Don't worry bout it." Mia interjected her voice calm yet firm. "He was about to leave right Princeton?" she asked, her words dripping with a touch of playful sarcasm.

"My name is Charles." He corrected.

Mia's response was swift and unapologetic. "I really couldn't care less," she declared, her tone dismissive. She pointed towards the door, her gesture leaving no room for negotiation.

"With pleasure," he replied bitterly, before making his exit, his bodyguard trailing behind him.

"What did he want ?" Leah questioned as she gracefully circled around Mia's chair. With a soft, seductive touch, she wrapped her hands around Mia's neck, the touch of her acrylic nails sending a tantalizing shiver down Mia's spine. Slowly, her hands glided down to Mia's shoulders, applying just the right amount of pressure to melt away the tension. Mia couldn't help but sigh in relief as she immediately felt her muscles relax under Leah's touch.
