Chapter 4 - First Steps

"Your parents still haven't forgiven their selves for what they did to you. They were going to send you out to stay with us, but with you being an adult, they thought you were better off together in your own home"

"I just don't understand why they didn't tell me"

"Keane...it wasn't their place to tell you"

"Then whose was it?" Noah said,

"That is even classified for us to know" Piper answered,

"So what is it you can tell us?" Arii asked,

"Your parents were scouted to be spies when you were only a year old Keane, Noah and Arii weren't even a thought. But they refused, they wanted a family...they cherished you and then they had Noah and then Arii, they had the family they always wanted. Every year they tried to get your parents on board, but every year, your parents turned them down. Until they gave them an offer they couldn't refuse. You were all near enough old enough to look after each other..."

"Old enough, seriously, I was an adult...why didn't they just explain the whole thing to me!"

"They didn't want you to be dragged into it"

"Like that didn't happen"

"They are working on a top secret mission, but they weren't meant to disappear like they did. The last message they gave us was that they were on their way home to you and that they had something to give you all. They didn't say what it was, but I know it was important"

"What else did they say?"

"Follow the clues and don't get caught" Rory said,

"Well what does that mean?"

"I'm guessing that each person on the list is going to tell you something, that'll lead you, closer to your parents" Rory answered,

"I guess this means we're leaving tomorrow?" Noah said,

"We're going to find Mum and Dad and end all of whatever's going on" I said.

We stayed for another couple of hours and ended up eating there. By time 5pm came, the pain which I had pushed to the side was back with a vengeance,

"Keane, your quiet...are you okay?" Arii asked,

"He's in pain" Tayte said as we pulled up outside our house,

"I'm...fine..."

"So that's why you look like you're going to pass out at any minute" Tayte retorted, getting out of the car and coming around to open my door,

"I said...I'm...okay" I gritted my teeth as I got out of the car, Tayte immediately steadied me and put his arm around my shoulder, Noah came to my other side, looking worried as Arii grabbed my crutches, "I...don't need you to...help me"

"Shut up" Noah said, as we all carefully headed in, where I was put on the sofa, I lay down and shut my eyes,

"No sleeping just yet" Angelo said "What hurts?"

"Everything" I muttered not opening my eyes,

"Not helpful Keane..." Angelo told me, I sighed, "What is hurting the worst?"

"My head and my leg"

"Thank you"

"Just, get me some tablets"

"Noah can you go and get some paracetomol and my little black bag" Angelo said,

"So, this is going to be fun, with you on planes and going to different countries" Tayte said, kneeling beside me,

"This...isn't permanent, I'll heal"

"I know...but it'll take time. We shouldn't be doing anything for at least a few months"

"We...have to, I promise, I'll be okay once we get going"

"Do you want me to book the plane tickets to England?" Arii asked,

"Yeah, the day after tomorrow"

"Okay" She left the room, Noah came back in and I took two tablets,

"I'll give you an injection of morphine...but you can't have any more today, I don't want you too reliant on it" I nodded and clutched Tayte's hand as the needle went into my leg,

"We'll get through this buddy" I heard Tayte whisper, before the darkness took over.

You cant help but love the bromance of Keane and Tayte!
