Part One Chapter Fourteen

Start from the beginning

Meta Knight quickly brought out his sword. (What is it?) he wondered (Is it the one who made the campfire? Or...)

The sounds of some kind of hissing or clicking kept getting closer, it was definitely some kind of wild creature. Or worse, a monster.

Meta Knight sighed, guess it didn't matter if he lit the fire after all.

The creatures soon revealed themselves, they were some kind of large insects or scarabs that had snow on their backs, the snow was decorated on them like whipped cream. Was it whipped cream?

Meta Knight narrowed his eyes, the creatures didn't look that threatening, but he knew appearances could be deceiving. And given the way the three of them were acting, he knew this wasn't going to be a peaceful interaction.

"Back off!" Meta Knight threatened, swinging his sword as a warning. "Back off or else you'll face the might of my sword!"

The creatures did not back down, and kept approaching, hissing and looking as though they were ready to attack.

Meta Knight opened up his wings "Very well, you asked for this!"

He then leaped up into the air, avoiding the scarab creature's projectile attacks and performed a condor dive, easily throwing back two of the scarabs while the third-much bigger one- stuck firmly to the ground and endured the hit.

Having been so easily knocked back by Meta Knight, the two scarabs skittered away in fear, while the third one remained and hissed at the knight.

Meta Knight glared at it. "Not going to back down like your friends, huh?"

The scarab continued to hiss at him and fired another projectile attack, which he quickly jumped back and dodged.

"Heh, brave but foolish."

Reading his sword, Meta Knight did a spin slash towards the scarab, landing a hit and slicing off some of the stuff on its back.

The scarab screeched in surprise and slight pain, yet it still persisted, firing more attacks at Meta Knight, who easily dodged them.

One projectile, Meta Knight managed to knock back at the scarab, hitting it in the eye. It let out a painful screech as its eye seemed to be sizzling from the projectile.

Meta Knight blinked in surprise. Were the projectiles some kind of venom or acid? He didn't have time to worry about that, as he wanted to wrap up this little fight. Holding up his sword so it would gain some energy, he unleashed a crescent slash attack, knocking the scarab back.

Finally seeing that it was clearly no match for its opponent, the scarab got up and skittered away- slowly due to its injuries.

Meta Knight took a deep breath and returned his sword to its sheath. That was an easy fight for him, but still a little irritating.

It was a good reminder though, he had to keep moving, or else worse foes might cross his path. Additionally it was helpful to know what creatures were out here, so he would be ready if more were foolish enough to try and fight him.

Meta Knight then got another reminder on why he needed to keep moving, as he felt an abrupt cold wind blowing through him. The weather was getting worse.

He looked at the campfire, maybe if he lit it up he could gain enough warmth to help him keep going until he found shelter. And since wild creatures found him regardless, it would be fine if he lit it.

Due to how tense the cold wind was, it would take more firewood for the campfire to ignite and stay burning. It didn't take long for him to find more wood to burn, and once he placed it onto the campfire, it only took him scraping a rock against his sword to create a spark which ignited the flames.

Meta Knight let out a sigh of relief, the warmth of the campfire was so soothing, even in this cookiefied body. This feeling didn't last long, as another cold breeze quickly blew past, cooling down the flames. The fire wouldn't last long.

Regardless, it was enough to warm Meta Knight up just enough so he would have a better time flying.

While he was warming up, watching the fire slowly dwindle, something made him tense up.

The sound of footsteps.

Turning around, Meta Knight brought his sword back out and looked around.

No one was there.

Meta Knight didn't lower his guard, he knew that if someone was out there they could easily be faking him out. There was the possibility whoever it was could come in peace, yet if that was the case why were they hidden.

Remaining stanced up for a bit, Meta Knight felt the fire behind him slowly die out. He looked back to it, noticed it was barely an ember now, and sighed.

Whoever was out there, it wasn't worth it. He had to get flying.

Spreading his now warmed up wings, Meta Knight took up to the sky and flew off.

It was at that moment, when the hooded figure that had been following him stepped out from the cover of the trees, and stood before the now put out campfire.

"Hm, there goes my chance. Thought I was finally going to be able to confront this stranger." the hooded figure muttered. Looking up to the sky, the hooded figure saw that Meta Knight was flying away. Slowly disappearing from the hooded figure's line of sight.

As he flew above the trees, Meta Knight could see he still had an extremely long way to go until he reached the bottom of the mountain.

He knew he could do it though, and he knew he had to.

For Kirby, Dedede, and the others.

"Hang in there my friends, I'm on my way. I don't know how long I'll be, but I'll do whatever it takes to reunite with you all. Whatever it takes."

With that declaration, Meta Knight kept flying onward.

No matter how long it would take, he had to reunite with the others. Regardless of what else this mountain or this cookie world had in store for him,

Meta Knight would fly onward.
