Next new adventure

The new year began, and Talbott entered the Great Hall, his eyes discreetly scanning the hall for any sign of y/n. He was looking forward to seeing her again over the summer break.

He saw her in the very first rows of the Ravenclaw table, talking to Rowan and Penny; she was smiling and laughing with them. With a contented sigh, he took his usual seat and waited for the feast to begin.

As the Headmaster was in the middle of his traditional speech, he discussed the events surrounding the cursed vaults last year.

He then introduced Patricia Rakepick, a renowned curse-breaker and a former student of Professor Dumbledore. She was invited to discuss her experiences with cursed places and objects. Her way of speaking and her stance were far from the headmaster's welcoming and friendly tone; hers was serious and authoritative. Her last words were a warning against any intervention or involvement with the cursed vault without her permission.

Talbott frowned, his concern growing as he glanced at y/n, who had the same expression of unease. He hopes that the presence of the older woman will finally make y/n realise to not involve herself in the cursed vault anymore.

As the feast came to an end, Talbott shifted his gaze again towards y/n. He saw her engage in an animated conversation with Hagrid; traces of her unease were nowhere to be seen, which made him relax.

He was aware that having her as a friend had changed his life for the better, and he's resolved to be a friend she could come for her problems. He had just hoped that this year her problems would consist of her studies and nothing dangerous.

The days flew by, Talbott had been going back and forth to the owlery. The reason? It was at the training grounds, Y/n. It brought a smile to his face whenever he saw her practising spells, for she displayed the traits he had come to like about her, but it faltered whenever he would notice Rakepick as her companion instead of Bill or Charlie. It seems that Rakepick had taken on the task of teaching new spells or duelling spells from Bill for y/n. It had confused him; surely he wasn't imagining how y/n's reaction to Rakepick that time at the welcoming feast?

He also knew from a previous conversation that he had managed to hear whenever he was near to y/n that she seemed suspicious of Rakepick's involvement with the cursed vault. Y/n letting the older woman teach her spells seemed out of character.

He couldn't help but wonder what the reason was. Because, as much as he wanted to approach y/n about it, he couldn't help but decide against it. He feels that asking her would be intrusive.

In the end, he decided to just keep an eye on the situation. He would just observe from a distance, hoping that she knew what she was doing and that she was being cautious around someone she didn't fully trust.

One night, Talbott was crouching down in the study area in the common room, looking for a book he had forgotten. Patting here and there, he opts to just search without creating any light, because he can still see clearly even with just the moonlight's help. However, he was interrupted when faint steps reached his ears, followed by the soft creaking of a door. He peered up and saw just in time, silver hair—y/n's hair, quietly exiting the Ravenclaw tower.

He paused, curious and confused at the reason for her midnight excursion. His focus was now at y/n rather than the book he was looking for. For the past few days, she has been unusually diligent and has focused her attention on her studies and her spell-casting exercise outside the training grounds. Standing up from his crouching position, he decides to follow her. He opened the door and peeked cautiously out the corridor. He could see the retreating form of y/n down the hallway, and he fully made it outside the door, planning to keep a safe distance from her to avoid being seen.
