The Masquerade Chap.8

The Night of the Masquerade had finally arrived, the invitations had long been sent out and It was open for the public to attend with It not just being only for the nobility, so all of Fontaine was excited as well as keeping the meaning of this ball In their thoughts as It was to honor the previous Hydro Archon's death anniversary. In the days leading up to tonight you were excited still but nervous as ever despite now being able to properly dance but like always Neuvillette assured you, with you believing In him as he said he'd stay by your side the entire time but you were however concerned about the matter of dress. but Neuvillette took care of it and had a gown made for you just In time for the Masquerade ball with a mask that matched to boot 

you were In your bedroom now getting ready, you'd freshened up In the bath and put on your underclothes so now you were just lacing up your corset, pulling until It was good enough with you then taking in a big breath before you put on your heeled shoes before you went to sit at your vanity while you did your hair and makeup. keeping It light but also very elegant and now you could finally wear the earrings that Neuvillette had given you in which you were happy, you did your hair into half up style and finished the look with the earrings he'd gifted you

you then quickly went behind your dressing screen, putting on the gown with it fitting like a glove (Click arrow above to see) and It was just beautiful. a sweetheart golden bodice with white skirts that had some glittery lace accents and you put on some elbow length gloves

*Knock Knock*

"Miss (Y/n)! Lord Neuvillette is waiting Lady Furina is about to open the Masquerade!"

you quickly put on your mask and neatly tied It, then picking up your skirts as you hurried along following the Melusine as she guided you to where he was waiting for you. he was wearing an elegant suite with blue and gold with a mask that matched It well, his hair was in a ponytail 

you blushed, but then smiled "My Lord?"

Neuvillette turned around to face you, with a blush spreading all the way up to his ears and for the first time In his life he was at a loss for words as he looked at you 

he cleared his throat, "You...you look beautiful"

you felt your heartbeat quicken, "Thank you Sir"

Neuvillette then took your hand in his, bending down as he pressed his lips atop It which made your heart flutter "Now then, if you would give me the honor to escort you this evening"

Neuvillette offered his elbow as you held onto it, then following him downstairs as the Palais Mermonia had become like an entirely different place decorated and furnished for the ball. just as you saw Furina about to address everyone In her stunning blue gown 

"Dear Citizens! Welcome one and all, Tonight we Celebrate and honor my Predecessor the previous Hydro Archon for which we shall celebrate her life tonight...let the ball commence"

 everyone applauded as the music then started again, just as you and Neuvillette came to stand beside Furina just as she complimented your ensemble "what a lovely dress!"

you smiled, "Thank you, yours as well"

you shuffled a little In place as you smoothed your skirts, just as someone started to approach he was tall with short black hair, wearing a suit of black, red and some gray 

Neuvillette gestured, "(Y/n), allow me to Introduce him this is Duke Wriothesley warden to the Fortress of Meropide"

"Oh! a Duke"

you lifted your skirts as he came before you, "Your Grace"

a small smile came to his face, and he took your hand in his "I've long heard Monsieur Neuvillette gained a new aid now I have the pleasure of meeting her"

Wriothesley kissed the top of your hand, you noticed he had a little scar underneath his left eye In which he gave you a wink underneath his mask before he went to greet Furina formally

Neuvillette put a hand on your shoulder, "Are you feeling alright?"

you nodded, "Yes thank you"

but then you coughed a little, so Neuvillette ushered you over to the vast banquet table where you had a drink to ease that tickle within your throat. "Thank you"

as you held the glass you looked to the other guests, the ball really was full of splendor and glamour as one who expect for a Masquerade In Fontaine but it felt magical too 

Noble lady # 1 "Monsieur Neuvillette! It's so nice to see you out and about when you're not within the Opera Epiclese, and I see you've finally found a young lady to settle down with"

Neuvillette's eyes widened, just as you blushed furiously at a loss for words 

"I...she isn't my wife, (Y/n) Is my personal aid" he said

you bowed to the lady, "Pleased to meet you Madam"

Noble lady # 1 "Oh? so it is then, other than Duke Wriothesley you're the other most eligible bachelor in Fontaine"

you took out your fan and unfolded it to hide your cheeks, just as Neuvillette put on a smile

"Is that so? I'd never paid it much attention before anyway I find myself too busy for such a thing at the moment"

Neuvillette then bowed his head, "if you would please excuse us"

you inclined your head as he ushered you away, "Sir, does this happen often?"

he sighed, "Sorry about that, Indeed but most of the time the ladies who wish for me to marry them only care that I am the Chief Justice, so I respectfully reject all proposals I receive"

you started to giggle, "I'm sorry I just...It's a little funny to visualize,"

"I know what you mean"

just then the music changed as you saw people start to pair up, it seemed time for the dancing as they made way for space at the center of the room. you watched as they took to the floor, Neuvillette looked down at you as he saw the pleasant smile on your face, he was glad you were now enjoying yourself and relaxed which brought a smile to his own face 

he then turned to you, extending his hand "May I have this dance?"

you smiled, "yes"

you put your hand in his as he guided you out onto the floor, just as Furina narrowed her sights on the both of you with great Intrigue "Hm...she's done good so far"

once on the dance floor, you and Neuvillette got into position as you soon started following the dancing around the both of you. It wasn't too fast but was precise and very elegant 

he spun you to the end of his arm before bringing you back, just as you Interlocked your fingers together while continuing to glide around just as you started laughing together. his deep chuckle resounded like a velvet curtain that enveloped you within It's warmth like the sunlight

"My Lord I don't think I've had this much fun in a while" you confessed

"Nor have I...It's so strange"

he then put his hands on your waist firmly, lifting you up into the air as he swept you around before planting you back onto your feet. In these moments It seemed Neuvillette began to realize just how fond of you he was becoming and he very much enjoyed this 

"do you enjoy working for me?"

you smiled, "I do,"

he gave your hand a squeeze, "Then Stay"

you smiled with a nod, "I'll stay until you no longer need me...you've done so much for me, so I want to repay you"

"Repay me? there is no need, just simply continue to be you"

you looked elsewhere as your chest felt warm, you did truly enjoy working by his side but you couldn't think further, Neuvillette then dipped you down as you held onto him, your heart fluttered again but then he brought you back up as he spun you around once more as you exchanged a look at each other with your eyes never leaving.
