Hard Work Chap.4

After that day you began your new life as Neuvillette's personal aid, the job itself was very easy and he was of course always on his feet if not in his office with you serving him some tea and suggesting he take a break, In which with your urging for him to take breaks he did so every time as not to worry you about his health. you often would bring him Important documents and or listen to him explaining how the court works to you as you'd need to know once there, he was a very patient and courteous man towards you even when you did make a mistake once he was all understanding. sometimes you wondered how or why he was so kind to you but you didn't air any complaint about It as you were glad he was so easy to speak with or get on with, you did bump into Lady Furina several times during the first week of your residency and she was happy for there to suddenly be a maid around. In which Neuvillette quickly told her off and that you were solely to work for him also saying you weren't a servant or maid but his aid.

Today It would be your first time present with Neuvillette In court, you were a tad nervous but he reassured you that all would be fine and that very serious cases weren't a regular, and also told you that he remained Impartial always willing to hear both sides to every story. just as you arrived to the Navia Line station while waiting for the next Aquabus to arrive

 "your job is so very Important, it must get tiring for you" you said

Neuvillette chuckled a little, "It would be a lie to say no, but this merely what a justice must do...ah the Aquabus is here, shall we go?"

you nodded and started stepping up onto the Aquabus but your foot slipped as one of the stairs had gotten wet, Neuvillette quickly caught you as you fell backwards against his chest 

"Are you alright?" he asked

you nodded, "yes...you saved me again Sir,"

"of course, here"

Neuvillette helped steady you as you held onto his hand, you then went up the rest of the stairs before sitting down as you took out your handkerchief as you cheeks were pinkish. Neuvillette then came to sit down as the Aquabus started to make It's descent 

"Welcome aboard the Navia line, please keep your hands and legs inside at all times"

Elphane then turned around to face you both, surprised to see Neuvillette in which she gave him a bow of the head to show respect as you settled in as it started to set off down the canals. and after the ride you soon got off at the station before continuing onto the Opera house itself as today there was a case, it was a matter of theft which wasn't too unusual to be seen 

you walked up the path together as you soon made your way inside, you'd never been inside the Opera Epiclese personally before so seeing It now you thought It was beautiful. Neuvillette noticed the look on your face, it brought a smile to his face as he found It amusing but then he motioned you to follow him as you snapped out of your awe, following him up the stairs that led to his designated seat that was right above the Oratrice in a box just as you saw Lady Furina

she waved to you and Neuvillette, "Hello there! I wonder what Interesting case will be presented to us today"

Neuvillette let out a sigh as he continued on and you put on your best smile as you acknowledged Furina, he opened the door as he went inside and you followed him as you looked out to see the seats were starting to gradually fill up down below. you didn't wish to be rude but couldn't help peer down to see the Oratrice just as Neuvillette took his seat

"Are you alright?" he asked

you nodded, "Yes Sir but...this feels a bit overwhelming"

"Don't worry, all will be fine" 

soon you looked over to see Furina standing off to the side In the prosecution as Clorinde guarded her side, you then moved farther away from Neuvillette as you noticed It seemed like the trail was about to begin, just as you saw who seemed to be the guilty party take to the stand 

Neuvillette cleared his throat, "Since both parties are present, I declare that the trial regarding the theft of Miss Chloe's jewelry is now In session"

he then stood up, "for the audiences understanding I will explain the story from her testimony, three days ago Miss Chloe received an Important delivery from Fontaine's best jeweler...she'd been looking forward to said package but an eye witness, her neighbor Mr. Clarence says It was taken by her housekeeper Aimee"

you furrowed your brows as you listened, just as Mr. Clarence was brought up to testify

"Mr. Clarence if you would recount what you saw that evening" said Neuvillette 

he nodded, "Yes your honor, It was around five In the evening I was just returning home to have my dinner when I saw the parcel being dropped off but as I went to unlock my door minutes later...I saw someone snatch up the parcel, It was Miss Aimee"

the crowd started to whisper amongst themselves, just as the house keeper spoke up 

"I didn't do It! you hear me, you didn't see a thing I have an alibi!" she yelled

Clarence shook his head, "It was clearly you I saw that evening, who else could it be?"

Aimee started, "I...I took it inside like any housekeeper would do!"

"I didn't see you take it inside"

Aimee pointed at him, "Liar!"

Chloe stood up, "Then why was It not there when I returned home, I know you stole It!"

Neuvillette struck his cane against the stands ground, "Order Order I say! now, Mr. Clarence where did you see Miss Aimee take the package?"

Clarence started, "She just ran off with It,"

Furina started, "What would the motivation be I wonder? oh how the plot thickens...Miss Aimee do you really dare to say you didn't steal the package"

"Yes I do!"

"Really? then where's that Alibi of yours" asked Furina

Aimee started, "I...I...I was tired last night and went home early"

Neuvillette raised a brow, "Without Miss Chloe dismissing you?"

"I....I"

Neuvillette put his hand's together, "Gardes"

just then one of the Gardes stepped onto the stage, "Your Honor, Lady Furina...as ordered I searched the resident of Miss Aimee and I found this stashed away In a drawer"

he held up a beautiful necklace, just as Chloe shot up from her seat "That's It!"

Aimee's face went pale, "I...I...."

Neuvillette stood up, "Then It seems we may move on to the sentencing, but first I will recount the events of which happened"

he went through the entire story and you listened very intently, finding yourself drawn In by the way he recounted the story as if It was simply that a story but with a great elegance. The Oratrice glowed blue as It had the Indemnitium processed and It soon came back to Neuvillette as a card popped up as he then read It, soon turning to the rest of the courthouse 

"According to the judgement of the Oratrice Mecanique d' Analyse Cardinale, Miss Aimee is...Guilty"

Aimee's pupils shrunk as she then fell to her knees, just as Furina pointed at her from afar 

"Gardes take her away how dare she believe she'd get away with this!"

The Gardes took Aimee away as Chloe was reunited with her necklace, In which the court was soon dismissed as the people chatted about It together 

Neuvillette adjusted his Jabot, "Now Then, let us prepare for the next case but first a recess is in order"

you nodded, "Yes sir, but may I say that you did amazing giving the verdict"

he smiled, "this is merely what I do day to day...now would you like to join me for some tea"

you smiled with a nod, "yes thank you, It would be nice to have a seat about now"

Neuvillette picked up his cane as he gestured, you and him then left to go have a short break with Lady Furina before the next case was brought to their attention.
