It was a grey overcast day,
When the wind blew through the leaves
And over the delicate water lilies,
Not even stopping to see the stone,
Where your name was engraved.
But in nature's work, I had no say.

There was a time when you and I,
Would play by the lake in the summers,
Walk in the rain in monsoons,
And lay huddled up in bed in winter.
But that time has passed and can't be retrieved,
So all that's left is memories.

I pleaded so much for you to stay,
Pleaded so much to prioritize me.
But you said it was for the country and for me,
So I let you slip away from my embrace,
Like sand blown by the winds,
'Cause I knew you weren't the one to stay.

I waited and waited for the sound of your shoes,
Making the floorboards creak.
But all I so was you in a coffin.
A twist in our tale should I say?
For this was the ending I never expected.
Is this how our story ends?

We took our vows under the church bells,
And swore to keep it for eternity
But it was only till death pulled us apart,
For what are we but fellow beings,
Born to die for the curse of mortality,
Sealing our fate as the church bell rings.

I won't pray for your soul to be in heaven,
'Cause I already know you're in God's abode,
I only hope he never abandons you, as I did,
And wish I could meet you up there
When my time comes, but what can I say,
My soul won't fit among the angels in heaven.

Just one more glimpse,
Of your warm blue eyes,
And see my world in them.
But you made your choice,
And I made mine,
So we might never cross paths again.

sometimes the hurdle
is life,
and sometimes,
it's death.
