As a smile emerges on my face,
I turn to my right, to find an empty place.
That's when I remember, you're not by my side anymore,
And the love we had is gone, to return nevermore.

As the tears slip, from my crimson eyes,
I search for your shoulder and calming advice.
That's when I realize what I had when you were mine,
And the person I lost, 'cause our stars couldn't align.

No— the stars, the fates, the destinies are not to blame,
For why our world went down, in flames.
It was the cracks and wounds, we left open,
And now the marks they left, are showing.

Then there were the unresolved conflicts,
We sorted out with apologies, instead of healing our afflicts.
And even if we said, the last one doesn't hurt anymore,
The scars remained right under our sleeves, forevermore.

It's amusing how the world presumes our feelings,
And it decides for us, the things we should be doing.
I know the story's over and it's time to put my pen down,
But the love I felt was way too profound.

you'll never know
what you have
until it's lost.
