Never expressed my emotions growing up,
Mom said they made me weak,
My brother would use them against me.
So when I cried
It was always alone,
Empty school hallway,
Bathroom stall,
Or under the comfort of the running shower.
Even pain couldn't stop me from keeping tears from rolling out.
Covering my mouth to keep quiet,
Head against my knees.

But you and I met,
And I've cried my eyes out more times than we can both count.
But you kept me safe,
Told me how proud you were
And how much strength it must take
To be vulnerable.
