Chapter Twenty nine

The months quickly went by. After a year and a half in Norwood University, I am quickly approaching my last semester in college. Hindi ko namalayan ang bilis ng panahon. Ni hindi ko akalain noong una na malalampasan ko ang unang taon ko dito sa bayan ng Sta. Ana.

I guess a few friends helped. Stefano had been nothing but annoying. Pero kahit ganoon ito, masasabi kong isa ito sa mga kaibigan kong laging nandiyan upang sumuporta lalo na kapag pinagtutulungan ako nina mean girl number one, two, and three.

Napalapit din ako kina Charlotte, Sapphire and Hyacinth. The girls are a year younger than me but I can say, they have a mind of a fully grown adult. Well, maliban kay Sapphire na paminsan minsan ay daig pa si Stefano kapag tinamaan ng kakulitan.

My ears perked when I heard female shrieks all around me. Nakatingin ang lahat sa entrance ng cafeteria. I snapped my head towards it and there, I saw Lucien, Marcus, Chance and Amalia walking towards their usual spot.

My eyes focused on one man only— Chance.

Hindi ko na naman napigilan ang sariling pagmasdan ito. He looks so handsome wearing his uniform. Kahit sa malayo, hindi maikakaila ang angkin nitong kagwapuhan. The way he held himself screams old money and power. He has this aura na tila ba napakahirap nitong abutin. Ganoon din naman sina Marcus and Lucien. Wala kang itulak kabigin sa dalawa. But I have always felt that with Chance, it is somehow different... way way more different...

Napakislot ako ng magtama ang mga mata namin. Again, his icy blue eyes never failed to make my entire body stiffen. He captured my attention. As if he demanded it... commanded it. Na para bang pagmamay-ari nito ang buong atensyon niya. I took a deep breath and fought the strange feeling.

Huminga ako ng malalim. Mahirap man, agad akong nagbawi ng tingin. I silently berrated myself at getting caught staring. Like what the hell are you looking at him for, huh, Katana?! Get a hild of yourself. He's got a girlfriend, for goodness sake! You know liking a guy who's already committed to someone is morally wrong!

I stiffened at the thought. Nakagat ko ang ibabang labi. Naikuyom ko ang mga kamao. I stared at my untouched sandwich at the table. Obviously perturbed by the nagging thought that came to my mind.

No... I just need to stop this feeling... I just need to stay away from him. Don't worry, Katana. Malapit ka naman nang grumaduate. After nun, makaka alis ka na dito sa Sta. Ana at makakabalik sa Maynila.

"Ate Tana!"

Napapitlag ako ng may humawak sa balikat ko.

"Charlotte!" I breathed in surprise.

"Hala ate... Nagulat ba kita?"

Awtomatiko akong nagpaskil ng ngiti sa mga labi. "No. Of course not. But... what are you doing here?"

Charlotte frowned. "Er... we're going to eat..? This is a cafeteria afterall." She chuckled.

Doon ko napagtanto ang itinanong. Natawa na lang din ako sa sarili. "Right. Of course. It's a freaking cafeteria."

Hindi natanggal ang pagkakakunot noo nito. Bagkus mas lalo pa iyong lumalim.

"Are you alright, ate?"

"Oo naman. Why wouldn't I be?"

"Oh, okay... akala ko kasi..."

"So, where are Sapph and Hya?" Pag-iiba ko.

Umupo ito sa tapat ko. "Nag-CR lang, ate." Bumaba ang mga mata nito sa sandwhich at sa baso ng pineapple juice na nasa mesa. "Hindi ka pa kumakain?"

"I'm about to. Ikaw, bumili ka kaya muna ng food?"

"Nah, I'll wait for the two first. Iyan lang ang kakainin mo?"
