Breakthrough

I am more than just a smile.
I am more than just that girl
who is willing to let you borrow a pencil.

I am more than just the quiet one,
sitting at the edge of the classroom,
Taking notes
and giving unsolicited opinions.

I am more than this awkward,
Forgettable shell of a person
that everyone sees.

I am dying inside,
longing to come out of this cocoon,
Yet finding the layers seamless,
and finding my strength too weak
To break through.

I am suffocating in this darkness,
this vacuum of isolation,
Yet I can't seem to find the voice
to scream for help.

It is my own fault
That this is the person you see-
The girl who is kind one minute
and, not knowing what else to say,
Brushes you off the next.

The solution is simple;
I just need to break that girl,
tear her apart,
Until all that's left
is the person
She's always wanted to be.
