After I had recovered, I spent most of my time assisting Shockwave in setting up his lab in the cave along with several vehicons who seemed quite frightened by me. I still did not quite understand why they were afraid until one of them dropped something, and it crashed into my back.
"Oh, Primus! I'm a goner!" The vehicon panicked. "Oh geeze! Please don't kill me!"
"Just get this thing off of me." I grumbled, the vehicon moving the object off of me. I felt a dampness form across my back and dribble down my sides. Predaking, who had been napping in a corner, immediately got up and ran over to me, a concerned look in his optics. I let out a weak groan of pain, Predaking catching Shockwave's attention with a low rumble.
"What happened?" Shockwave asked as he made his way over to me.
"I um... i-it was an accident!" The vehicon panicked. I slowly pushed my way up, predaking using his muzzle to assist me in standing.
"Just... shoo, will ya?" I groaned, waving a servo at the vehicon quickly ran off. Predaking nuzzled my chassis in concern, my servo gently patting his helm. "I'm okay Predaking, it's just a small cut."
"A cut that shouldn't have happened." Shockwave said. With the help of Predaking, I was guided to a makeshift medical berth and laid down. "It isn't too severe, but your armor is deteriorating."
"Figures." I sighed as Shockwave patched up the wound and cleaned off the energon that had leaked out. I slowly sat up and went to go back to work when Shockwave stopped me.
"Y/D, it would be logical for you to let the vehicons do the rest of the manual labor. I require your assistance in setting up the workstations."
"As you wish." I said, heading over to the unfinished workstation and, after around an hour, I got them all up and running. I then neatly organized the datapads that Shockwave required and made sure everything was in working order before going to check on Predaking.
I found him curled up in a sort of stone nest, which I found quite amusing to see. He lifted his helm up and gave me a concerned look.
"I am fine, Predaking." I said in the Old Tongue, climbing into the nest and sitting next to him. Predaking then nuzzled me, a signal he did when he wanted to hear more about the old stories and culture. "Always eager to learn. You would make a great Eldarth." I said. "How about I tell you the legend of the Dawnbreaker. At the very beginning, when Predacons ruled over Cybertron, there was a great Eldarth named Shatterfang. She was a beautiful Drakas with golden wings that often had her compared to the dawn. According to legend, she once faced a terrifying Drakas named Shadowing, a corrupt being who was infected by the Blood of Unicron. The two Drakas battled for dominance, Shatterfang winning after several stellar cycles. She showed mercy to Shadowing, something that had not been seen among the Predacons before. Shadowing took advantage of her and slaughtered her. This angered Onyx Prime so much that he appeared before Shadowing and banished him from this plane of existence. Shatterfang became known as the Dawnbreaker for her deed, and it became tradition for Eldarths to show mercy whenever and wherever possible."
Predaking seemed to be in awe at the story and nudged me again for another. I chuckled in amusement and went on to tell him of other legends and myths. One legend, however, really caught his curiosity that explained burial traditions. I explained to him that for a Predacon to join the Great Hunting Grounds after death, they need to have their remains buried on Cybertron so that they may return from whence they came.
"I hope and pray to the Lord of Beasts that the Predacons we create will not perish here like those that came before, I fear their sparks may be lost to time. Perhaps Primus has found them and brought them home. One can only hope." I said, a wave of fatigue hitting me. Predaking seemed to notice and rumbled to get Shockwave's attention.
"Y/D, it is time for your treatment." Shockwave said. I slowly got up and used the spear to help me to my pedes. I made my way over to Shockwave and gingerly sat down on the medical berth as Shockwave gave me my treatment and drew an energon sample. I then made my way over to my berth and curled up on it with a content sigh.
Shockwave then ran the sample, and I could tell by the way his audials were that it was not good news. He turned to me almost as if he were hesitant to tell me the results.
"It's progressed, hasn't it?" I asked. Shockwave nodded, and I swore I could see a tear form in his optic that he quickly hid from me.
"It has progressed to the beginnings of Stage 4, although it is much slower in its progression." Shockwave said, walking over to my berth and sitting on an empty energon storage cube that was next to it.
"As... as long as I pass back on Cybertron, I will accept my fate." I said with a shaky sigh. "How... how much time do I have?"
"It is unknown. It could be days or years." Shockwave said. I leaned my helm against him, the urge to tell him how I felt rising in me.
'I can't. It will only hurt him for when I go. He must not know that I've fallen for him.' I told myself. Shockwave then did something I did not expect. He wrapped an arm around me and pulled me into a hug, his helm resting on top of mine.
"I am... sorry, Y/D. I failed."
"You did not fail, Shockwave. I doubt I would have survived this long without your aid." I said, trying to reassure him. "There is still a chance, a small one but a chance. Regardless of how I fall, I will do it by your side."
"But why? I've failed to put the Cryosis into remission."
"For now, we can not give up just yet. It is only hopeless when the lights go out. As long as a spark beats in us, there is hope." I said, snuggling into Shockwave. I could hear his sparkrate pick up at the gesture.
"Illogical." He muttered, to which I chuckled in amusement, gently pulling away and laying on my berth.
"I know."
