But for the first time, in maybe my entire life, I felt important in someone's eyes. I felt like I was capable and deserving of love. And when I looked into Y/n's eyes I felt my shattered heart slowly being glued back together.

"Tu m'étonnes plus que tu ne le sauras jamais, Y/n." (You amaze me more than you will ever know, Y/n.)

I saw her blush and then tuck her head in the crook of my neck. I kissed the top of her forehead before we both turned our attention back to the sky.

After a couple of minutes of peaceful silence, I heard a ticking noise. Y/n must have heard it too because she sat up and looked around us, "Do you hear that?" She asked confused.

I sat up next to her and nodded but didn't have time to say anything before we got our answer.

Sprinklers had shot up from the grass and water was being sprayed at us from all directions. I immediately scrambled to my feet and helped Y/n up as we ran through the grass and tried not to slip.

Y/n kept having to stop to catch her breath from laughing so hard and I felt myself doing the same.

By the time we got back to the trail both of us were soaking wet and nearly in tears from laughing so much.

"Oh no, I lost my necklace!" Y/n said as she started walking back to the grass. I ran to follow her, "Where is it?" I asked.

"Over there," She pointed to where we were sitting earlier. I squinted toward the patch of grass as if I could actually see the small necklace from where we were at. "I don't see-"

I was cut off as I felt Y/n push me near the sprinkler and water was being shot at me again. I whipped around and gave her a glare but when I tried moving away from the sprinkler I slipped on the wet grass and went face-first to the ground. I watched as Y/n almost fell from laughter. "You're so going to regret that," I called out as I tried to hold back the smile that was plastered across my face.

"Oh, I'm so scared." Y/n giggled as walked over and stuck her hand out to help me up. I looked up at her with a grin. She was making this so easy.

I grabbed her hand and before she could process what was happening I pulled her arm and watched her tumble to the ground next to me landing in a small puddle.

"I walked right into that one, didn't I," She laughed as she looked up at me and wiped the water from her face.

"Yes, you did," I smirked as I stood up and pulled her off the ground. As soon as she got up I pulled her into a kiss, not even caring that we were still under the sprinkler. It was a soft kiss and I could feel her smiling against my lips.

WE WALKED back to the car still drenched from the sprinklers. I don't think I took my eyes off Emily the entire walk there. Her hair was slightly wavy from the water and there was a lingering smile on her face that isn't there that often. She looked at peace in the moonlight and it made my heart happy. Tonight had gone nothing as I had expected but it was perfect nonetheless.

"You're going to trip if you don't stop staring at me." Emily teased.

"I don't think you should be lecturing me on tripping." I grinned as the memory of Emily face-planting in the ground replayed in my mind.

She glared at me but the corners of her lips were still turned upwards, "You're never going to let me live that down, are you?"

"Nope!"

She rolled her eyes as we got into her car. She opened the passenger side door for me before heading to her side. It was a simple gesture but it didn't go unnoticed by me. She truly is amazing.

As she started driving she turned on the radio and softly hummed to the music. I smiled as listened to her, her voice was both calming and beautiful.

Once we got inside her apartment Sergio slowly walked straight to me and planted himself at my feet. I couldn't help but laugh at Emily's eye roll. "You little traitor," She whispered to him as I picked him up.

I went to sit at her kitchen counter and got out the cookies as she went upstairs to grab towels.

An hour later we were both mostly dry and stuffed full of red-velvet cookies. Sergio had fallen asleep in my lap and Emily was across from me leaning on the counter and smiling.

"Thank you for tonight, I don't think I've had this much fun in a long time," She said softly. I reached over the counter and grabbed her hand.

"You deserve it. You know, happiness and fun, all that stuff." I said giving her a smile. I don't know if it was the profiler in me or the strange connection we had but I knew what she was feeling. She doesn't think she deserves any of this, and that's why she puts up walls to hide behind. But now that I've seen behind the wall, I will do whatever I can to break them down and show her how deserving of love and happiness she is.

She squeezed my hand in acknowledgment as an unsaid thank you.

"Is it- is it okay that I want to take this slowly? I don't want to mess this up or rush you into anything and it's kind of already complicated because I am your boss-" She rambled on and I felt my smile get bigger. Emily Prentiss is not usually a woman that gets flustered.

"Woah slow down," I laughed softly and I saw her bit her lip.

"I want to take things slowly too." I watched as the tension released from Emily's shoulder.

"And we can figure the rest out along the way. It's only complicated if we make it that way." I added.

"We could both get fired." She deadpanned.

"We will if you keep that attitude up." I teased and she let out a laugh. "Seriously though, we'll figure it all out together," I said as I rubbed the back of my thumb across her hand.

"Together," She repeated with a big smile.

We talked for another half hour before she walked me back to my car. "I had a lot of fun tonight too," I said as she opened my car door for me. She smiled and leaned in to kiss me and I happily obliged. As soon as she pulled back I wanted her lips back on mine, but I truly did want to move things slowly so I knew going back home was for the best.

"I'm glad. Text me when you get home." She smiled.

"I will, bye Emily."

"Bye Y/n." She said as she closed my car door and gave me a small wave.

The entire ride home I was grinning from ear to ear. As soon as I got to my apartment I pulled out my phone to text Emily.

Y/N: I'm home! Safe and sound!

Emily: No fires to put out?

Y/N: Im never going to live that down am I? :(

Emily: Never :)

Emily: Get some sleep pyromaniac.

Y/N: Haha, you get some sleep too!

Emily: Goodnight Y/N

Y/N: Goodnight Emily :)
