He gestures toward my still-
half-full latte.

"Finish that and I'll show you."

Beyond intrigued, I gulp
down the rest and follow
him back to the car.

A short drive later and we're pulling up to a small airstrip
on the edge of the city.

It's not the big international airport we flew in to a few
nights ago but there are a handful of small planes
mostly the kind with
propellers that only have
room for a couple of people.

"We're going to take a plane
over Paris?" I ask, not even believing the words that are coming out of my mouth.

Is this really my life now?

"Not a plane." He shakes his head and points to the end
of the short runway.

"Over there."

I look to where he's pointing
and my eyes go wide.

"A helicopter?" I look back
at him and he's laughing as
I'm practically bouncing up
and down in anticipation.

"Are you serious?"

"Do you keep a pilot on
standby or something?"

Again, it feels like something
that wouldn't even happen in
real life but he looks so nonchalant about the whole thing.

As if chartering a helicopter
on a random Tuesday evening
is something everyone does.

But I start to get confused
when he shakes his head again.

"Nope, no pilot, either."

I can tell that he's enjoying
this little game but it's maddening that I have to
guess at every detail as we
go along.

If this were any other date,
I'd be annoyed.

But hello, it's Jeon Guk, first
of all and second? It's a
freaking helicopter.

We start to walk toward it
and it's really quite a bit bigger than I imagine helicopters to be.

I've always wanted to ride in
one but this is the first time
I've had the opportunity.

Still, I'm a little unclear about how we're supposed to get
it into the air without a pilot.

Then the realization hits me
and I stop dead in my tracks,
my mouth falling open as he looks back over his shoulder
at me.

"Do you mean..." I start to
ask, but words fail me.

I point to him, then the helicopter in front of us.

"Seriously?"

He nods. "Yep."

"You'll be my co-pilot
tonight, babe."

"I swear, it's the best way to
see Paris. You won't regret it."

I'm not sure if I should be excited or terrified.

Maybe both.

"I didn't know you could fly."

"Like... actually fly one of
these things?"

"Certified and everything."

He reaches back to take my
hand and gently pulls me toward him as we close the remaining distance to the helicopter.

"I promise you'll love it."

"I'll take good care of you."

Even though my brain was still short-circuiting a little at the thought of Guk flying us
around over Paris, there was something in his voice, an honesty and sincerity that
made me want to trust him.

"Okay." I nod, bracing myself
as he gives me a boost up to
the high door.

"I guess I'm as ready as
I'll ever be."

He laughs, then straps me in before walking around and getting into the pilot's seat.

"That's the spirit."

"Believe me, this is going to be something you won't forget."

I take a deep breath and
clasp my hands together in
my lap, doing my best to
calm my nerves.

My breath catches in the back
of my throat as we lift off the ground and I know for sure
that he meant what he said about not forgetting this experience.

But I do trust him and I want
to take advantage of every amazing opportunity that
comes my way on this trip.

Because I know that no matter how great things are now, it
can all get taken away from
me just as quickly as it's
been given.

After all, everything that has
led up to this point has been
at the whim of a billionaire.
