Chapter 24

"Doctor Kix! Report to the ICU now!" Kix groaned, "DOCTOR KIX NOW!". 

Hearing the familiar voice, Kix took off down the corridor with Thorn following. Father and son sprinted for the ICU only to stop in their tracks. Kix froze at the man opposite him, he put his body in front of Thorns. His son, clinging to the back of his uniform. 

"I heard the darkest place for a waking child was six feet under" the man chuckled, Kix's eyes widened, he signalled for Thorn to spread the news to Jesse. While Kix dealt with the man in front of him.

Thorn ran quickly, he skidded into the room only to be steadied by Jesse. 

"Son, what is it?" Jesse asked. 

"Pap, I know this sounds crazy but I think Amber's alive" Thorn sheepishly said while rubbing his arm. 

Ahsoka, Rex, Cody and Wrecker looked at him like he had a second head. 

"What?"

"Sweetie, it's been three months," Ahsoka spoke softly. Thorn only frowned but it turned into a face of disbelief, he shrugged off Jesse's palm. A gunshot rang out, all police officers snapped into action only to gasp at what they saw. Kix was being held in the grasp of the masked leader, the doctor looked ready to collapse. Three police officers up against fifteen masked individuals holding one of theirs captive. 

"Who are you?!" Cody demanded.

"Now that doesn't matter. What matters is the little girl who is about to wake from her coma and panic in a small box due to lack of oxygen, commander!" The man said holding Kix tightly, the doctor didn't even squirm.

"What do you mean!?" Rex shouted.

"I think you know exactly what I mean Captain, it seems your daughter will know exactly what the meaning of buried alive is" the man looked at his watch, "I reckon you have thirty minutes until she wakes and you will never hear your daughter again" the individual laughed. 

"Now we are going to go, but you are more than welcome to save your daughter if you get there in time" The man laughed while directing his group from the hospital. Kix found himself thrown to the floor, he hit it hard. Kix managed to climb back to his feet and glare back at the group, a few members remained only to pass on hand signals. Kix groaned, walking over to the police officers who were all busying themselves in ringing up nearby officers to the graveyard. They needed to know. 

Jesse turned only to catch Kix whose legs buckled. "We need to get you home" Jesse whispered, "Later" Kix replied. 

An hour had passed since Cody sent out the order to dig up Amber’s grave, they hoped they hadn’t been punked. Ahsoka and Rex paced outside of their daughter's door, the two had been in Kix’s office when she was brought in. It turned out the man was telling the truth, Kix had disappeared into her room and not emerged for twenty minutes, it was beginning to worry those outside. Which consisted of: Ahsoka, Rex, Sheila, Jesse, Echo and Wrecker. They all worried in their own way. Another ten minutes passed, they were starting to lose hope when the door opened revealing an exhausted Kix, the doctor had a smile on his face. 

“She’s healthy and well. Whatever she was given has essentially cured her. Amber’s blood is being run to check for any anomalies but she is up for visitors” Kix explained, stepping aside he allowed Ahsoka and Rex into the room. The others decided to give the parents privacy. Kix tried not to lean against the wall but he soon found himself face to face with Sheila, the older woman did not look happy. “I know people and if I find you had anything to do with this. I will make sure you are put away for life” Sheila threatened him, Jesse cleared his throat pointing at his badge however that didn’t deter her as she walked into the room to meet her grandchild. Kix was about to walk away when a hand on his shoulder made him turn around only to meet a fist, the doctor groaned.
