PRESENT
In choreography class, the dance instructor tells them about a project they'll be doing. Jungkook and Jimin are situated on the outskirts of the circle, Jimin uncertain on how to approach his fellow classmates.
"There aren't a lot of fourth year music students for individuals to be paired with, so we've come up with an idea." The professor holds up a list, waving it around as if it were a lottery ticket he just won. "You'll put your names beside the song you want to choreograph and next class you'll meet the fourth year students you'll be working with. After your name is next to a song, there will be no changes. Please think carefully."
The list is passed around. It makes a full circle of students unsure of which song to pick so they pass it to the back.
Jungkook picks a song called My sea. The names of the fourth years aren't there, instead pseudonyms. His song is by someone called IU. Jungkook hands over the clipboard and Jimin's eyes widen.
Without a second thought, he puts his name beside So far away by Agust D. Jungkook peaks over him and makes a sound.
"You know the song?"
"I didn't know Agust D was a student here," Jimin says, positively beaming.
Jimin's music taste has always been anything he likes that's good, though rarely does he listen to rappers. Agust D is the exception. Jimin found the guy two years ago, releasing his mixtapes online and he'd been obsessed. Nobody knows what the guy looks like. He almost can't believe he'll be working with and meeting the rapper for the first time.
"Oh, yeah." Jungkook smiles fleetingly. He passes the clipboard forward, eyes glancing around the room at the other students. "That means some of us will be in groups and some may end up alone."
"Hard to believe anyone ending up alone," Jimin says. The other students have finished writing their names down. Those in possession of the clipboard glance back at Jimin, murmuring to themselves though Jimin doesn't notice this.
The professor calls those who have completed to the front. Jimin and Jungkook are on their feet and at the front in seconds flat. Jungkook bumps their shoulders together, a grin eating at his face. Jimin rolls his eyes, unable to fight off the smile.
"So, the key to choreography..."

"You're already doing a project?" Taehyung asks from across the table, poking his chopsticks into the ramen. Apparently, the first year music and sound production students haven't been given any massive assignments. Jimin thinks it's strange. Jungkook is just excited because the song he picked sounds pretty.
"It's year long, I think," Jimin explains. He asked Professor Kwon during class because if it were for this semester, it would be rushed, nonsensical choreography that may not be up to standards for fourth year students.
Jungkook rolls his eyes and points a knife. "It's an implementation thing," he says. Taehyung reaches out a hand and takes the knife from him, scowling and going on about the dangers of holding a knife the way he just did. Jungkook shrugs, unaffected and continues.
"This is the first year they're doing a proper choreography thing for first year dancers. They might have based it on what the higher years look like. If they're struggling at their levels, the professors would have realized they need to implement it from the start."
"Wow. That actually made sense," Jimin says. Jungkook spins his head to glare at him, but stops. Jimin cracks a smile.
"Wow indeed," Taehyung mocks. "You actually crack jokes."
The cafeteria today is bustling. People crowd the lower section and a handful of people have made their way upstairs. Jimin tries to relax, but fails when a hand slams on their table, effectively startling him in his seat.
"Here are the loves of my life!"
Jimin feels like he's staring into the sun. The bright haired boy grins, giving Jungkook and Taehyung a peck on the cheek. He doesn't sit, though his eyes flicker to Jimin and he smiles. "This must be the roommate. Thanks for taking care of them, they can be a handful."
"No problem," Jimin muses, grinning when Jungkook nudges him lightly.
Truth is, he doesn't know how to react. All this time he thought Jungkook and Taehyung are in a relationship. Which, technically, he isn't wrong. There's just a third party to include in their relationship. The boy is certainly the smiliest of the three, touchy from the physical contact he makes with them every five seconds as he tells them something. Jimin looks away as the boy kisses them goodbye and tells Jimin he'll see him around.
"Hoseok," Taehyung explains.
"We thought you might be weird," Jungkook adds as an after thought.
Jimin only rolls his eyes. "I'm gonna be weird if you don't let me know. It would have felt less awkward, you know?"
"We meant with the—"
"Yeah, well, I'm gay. Okay?" Jimin eyes them both. "Can we not be weird about it now? Please."
They're quiet for a moment, but it passes as they look at each other and burst out laughing. Jimin feels a little less tense, though it's easier in the room than around other people. Even as he sits here in the cafeteria, eating and speaking with the only two boys he could potentially consider friends, his mind never eases.
He's reminded of so long ago, where nowhere was safe and the only person he had was the boy from the train.
