Noises in the Night

At first I thought the darkness would be better, because I wouldn't be able to see what was happening. I was wrong. So very wrong. Because I wasn't able to distract myself by looking at something, I was insanely aware of everything. I could hear my heart throb slowly and I could feel the twitch as my blood slid slowly through my veins. Every sound, every feeling was intensified. But that wasn't the worst part. The blackness seemed to extend for miles, with no end. I couldn't see what was going on, so I couldn't tell what time it was. Every minute became an hour, ever hour a day. There seemed to be no end.

PETER POV:

Maria had been gone for weeks. It was obvious that she hadn't just left because of the fight. I had been looking for her for 2 weeks straight, but there was no sign of her anywhere. Caspian was infuriated that I wasn't around to help him prepare for the battle, but I had continued to look. And came up blank. I sighed then began trekking up to the top of the temple, Marias favorite place

I got to the top and looked around, but there was still nothing. I sighed, then sat down on her rock. My hand brushed against something that seemed out of place. I furrowed my eyebrows and looked down at the surface of the rock. There, were five drops of deep red, almost black blood.

Maria's. I jumped up and looked around. There was a glint of something in the grass, and I bent down to pick it up. It was one of the throwing knives I had given her, surrounded by a pile of black ash. I hunted around some more and found three more knives laying in a pile, surrounded by the same black ash. Next to it, was another dagger, but this one was black and green, barbed and jagged. It was coated in the same deep red blood. I followed the trail until I reached the end. At the end, there was a rolled up note, stuck in the ground with an arrow of Susan's. I yanked the arrow out of the ground and unrolled the note. It read,

I have her. Surrender, and she will not be harmed. More than she already has been that is.

Miraz, King of the Talmariens

I stood up slowly as rage coursed through my veins. With a yell, I tore the note in half and began running down the temple. He had asked for surrender, but in doing so, he had just declared war.

"Caspian!" I shouted as I stormed into the temple.

"What is it Peter?"

"We attack Mirazs Palace," I said, fury clear in my voice, "Tonight."
