"I'm sorry. I'm so sorry."

The cuts were shallow on my face and I could feel blood dripping down, staining my light blue shirt. But I didn't care about myself. No, I was more concerned about my pup who was nothing short of a whimpering ball of ebony fur. It was the fear that was getting to me. I was afraid of my brother and afraid for us. Jeffery stood awkwardly by the overturned table. "Move." I breathed, stepping around him.

I scooped up my son and went out the door without a single look back. I was sure Jeffery was standing in the doorway, staring at me. I all but ran to Clarrissa's house, slamming on the door loud enough for the neighbors to hear. She yanked it open wearing a night gown and an annoyed expression that melted into worry. "Colton--what's going on?"

She stepped aside and I entered feeling my emotions boiling over. "I--he kicked him and-and he hasn't gotten up--"

"Who?"

"Jeffery!"
