"So what is it then?!" Jason was out of ideas.
She forced out a breath of air, weird for a human, but would have been dangerous as a dragon, "I don't think you will be able to find a 'power' to describe it. Literally it is just a bond."
"A bond?"
"Yes, it is not like friends. It is more like a parent child relationship where your emotions and wishes literally shape the dragonet's shape and future."
"I guess I can see that. So just like a parent, with more consequences?" Jason spoke with trepidation, "Can you give me an example."
"Why yes, of course. Take the orcs for an example. Up until a year ago one of their shamans had the ability to bond with my children. She bonded with the hatching dragonets and saved their lives."
"That is why you work together!"
"Yes, and look the orcs raise dragons to be orcs with strong nature based elemental magic and strength." Azeroth raised her hands to the sky and an illustration of what she was saying appeared in real time. Elves raise elves which are quick, graceful, and also have nature based elemental magic. But Elf magic is more refined. Less about earth quakes and lightning storms and more about gourds that pour unlimited water and bows that have monstrous strength."
"Wow, so dwarves, gnomes, elementals?" Jason asked.
"Short, wingless, but metallurgy magic proficient. Weak and small, but have magic to protect and nurture a resource. Elementals can't bond with dragons." Azeroth explained each in turn.
"Wait but then why would you let a human bond? What do you want pink little weaklings for dragons?" Jason said without thinking.
"I have faith in my brood. They will be powerful. They are always powerful." She said brooking no contradiction, "Do you know the power I am giving you? Are you trying to convince me not to let you bond? You realize I will just kill you if you don't?"
"Yes, yes, I know, but my life has been in constant danger since arriving here yesterday. I don't think I can ..., well I don't know, threats for loosing my life and just sort of building up right now. I have kind of gotten used to it."
"We will see how powerful a human bonded dragon is, now won't we."
Jason thought about it for a bit, "What about you? We're you bonded to a human? You see pretty human to me...?"
"My bonded was a god. A god of war." She said with a wave as of it was nothing.
Jason stammered, "A ggggoood?"
"Yes, a god. A god who was destroyed in the second cycle's god war."
"Oh, I am sorry. I am sorry for bringing it up!" Backing up carefully, Jason unconsciously created space.
She shook her head, "That was a long time ago. Most dragons die when their bond dies. But some live on anyways. Perhaps my bonded god's psyche lives on even after she went gone to the spirit world."
"I am sorry!"
Azeroth shook her head, "You have much to learn if we are going to work together. My pain makes me what I am today. No pity is necessary. I am not an existence who can be pitied. You belittle all the races who I have crushed, pounded into the ground."
"Oh, I am sorry, I, ..." Jason said confused
"Just stop talking. You will learn. You will learn what it means to tread on the world stage." She started glowing while everything else around her seemed to loose luster, "You will either fall hard and become a cautionary tail parents tell their babies at night or perhaps if you are very good you might become something else."
