Pov: Ben helps a Syntec experiment through a tough night

(Ben's pov:)

Signing off these experiment papers is probably the hardest part of my job especially when they are for the girl I fell for. Imagine when it's your fault she is in pain, your fault she can never see the light of day again. It's soul-crushing. 

I sighed as I went to turn off the main lights to location 1 plunging all the hallways into darkness. Hearing the occasional moan of pain sent shivers down my spine. The weather outside was grim, dark threatening clouds blanketed the once light blue sky sentencing the whole of Santa Clarita into a mournful grey.

From the corner of my eye, a slash of white made its way across the sky at psychotic speeds, followed by the low rumble of thunder. Fear flashed through my mind as my eyes widened. Suddenly sprinting down the pitch black hallways leading to the far end of Location 1.

The screams only became louder as I ran closer to the door I so desperately wanted to reach. Once finally reaching my desperation the strikes were now constant only leading to the inevitable explosions of sound resonating from the sky.

Without hesitation, I opened the door only to see a sight that broke my already fractured heart into two. There she was curled in the corner, only a small hospital gown covering her small and bruised body. Her body shuddered as each thunder became louder.

(Y/n's pov:)

I lay flat on the floor allowing the cool concrete to soak into my body in a desperate attempt to soothe the constant pain radiating from my body. The sound of a drill still rang through my head like a hammer slamming into it. The wall above me was a bleak white with peeling paint in the corners. 

The sickly yellow light residing above me created an array of colors in my soulless eyes. Suddenly the distant sound of thunder made my ears prick up. The immediate sound caused panic to rise in my chest. Then another boom, this time closer, caused me to scream and hide in the corner. 

With nothing but the empty haunting room to protect me from the dangers outside I pulled my knees to my chest and buried my head between my legs in an attempt to hide away from my screwed-up life. 

That's when a miracle walked in. A moment later Benjamin Cobalt, a man who has done nothing but look after me since I arrived here, walked through the door. Sweat sat on his forehead as he clearly ran here. I looked up into his dark brown eyes and see nothing but regret and sadness. 

He cautiously steps towards me but another thunder strike sends me into a spiral of panic, the second my breathing picks up and my throat closes on itself, it's Ben at my side pulling me onto his lap.

We're both now sitting on the floor his strong arms wrapped around my small quivering form. I listen to his steady heart in his chest allowing my sore and tense muscles to relax. Another strike makes me bury my head further into his chest with his hold on me tightening, 

"It alright y/n, it can't hurt you" his soothing voice reaches my ears, begging me to listen to him

"It's so loud" I whisper, my voice weak from screaming

"I know but you know what, I've seen how strong you are and I know that you know that as long as you here you're safe"

"As long as your here Ben I'm safe," I say looking into his eyes, he kisses my forehead and I slowly fall asleep on his chest, occasionally jolting due to the deafening thunder outside. 

(Ben's pov:)

My heart shattered as I watched the broken girl in my grasp fall asleep, the constant smashing outside making her judder. Her small hands were attached to the sleeves of my lab coat, shea also snuggled into the hoodie I wrapped around her in a hoodie I found to help the never-ending shivering. 

The day I read her file, the day I read the word Astraphoibia was the day I vouched to look after this girl who managed to get caught in the kill circle that is Syntec. 

One day I'll save her but right now all I can do is be there with her, even if I have to sit awake through every thunderstorm, I will because in truth. I love this girl.
