Will x reader

Pov: It's your first day.

(Y/n's pov:)

You blink rapidly as the overly intoxicating smell of antiseptic hits you, stepping back into the Hospital of chicago Med was De Ja Vu from the days of your training here. You started walking round unsure of where to go or what to do.

Until your saw a face thta made your chest bubble.

"Hey y/n its so nice to see you again" Will Halstead came barreling over to me engulfing me in his bear hug. It had been years since i'd seen the red head doctor, a smile I could never forget.

"omg Will, god its been forever. How are you" We started walking to the break room continuing our back and fotth conversation.

"I've been great, think my life has finally calmed down since med school"

"How long have you been at med for"

"A few years now, I was the senior resident for a few years until my residency finished then I was accepted as full time staff" you could practically see the excitement braking off his features.

Will had come so far since I last saw, one minute he's spending his weekends in clubs all around new York the next he's an official doctor in one of the best hospitals in Chicago.

"Anyway, enough about me how have you been"

"Oh you know around, I flunked my medical exams so I had to retake all my exams. Took another 5 years to get through med school" the smile on my face faltered at the considerable amount of debt I've now accumulated.

"Well it may seem like a bad thing but it's not, you may be more knowledgeable than you were before" his smile beamed instant removing the strain on my shoulders.

*A few hours later*

I was with my third patient of the day, a simple bike ride gone wrong.

"Well Chris looks like your going to be alright, the bruises on your ribs should heal soon and I'll inform your mum on how to clean your head wound" I explained the simple instructions to the battered teen Infront of me, the pictures of brain scans and chest x-ray on my ipad.

"Thankyou, this will definitely teach me to be more observant" chris smiled with gratitude at me, this 18 year old was lucky, he could have been so much worse for wear.

* Half an hour later*

"CODE BLUE!!!" The alarm bells of someone saying rang through my tired head, I ignored it thinking it was someone else's patient but when I heard my pager going off, my throat clenched

Time slowed down as I ran to Chris's room, doctor Rhodes was already in there slamming his palms into his chest trying desperately to bring life back into the teenager.

My mind ran coming with every situation this could have happened. I shook out of my daze and ran into the room.

" Y/n take over compressions, nurse hand me the paddles, I watched in slow motion as electricity was shot through his body.

I was sweating and my arms were cramping but I couldn't stop, I couldn't lose my patient on the first day. I was in such a daze I couldn't hear Rhodes  calling my name.

"Y/n, y/n I'm sorry he's gone' his handed were on mine as I slowly stopped compressions, the weight of what just happened sinking into my core.

" He must have suffered an acute hemorrhage in the brain, it would have grown after the brain scan" I was told by Doctor Rhodes.

Everything was muffle, I knew it would be bad losing your first patient but I never was ready for this. Without saying anything I walked away and went on auto pilot to the break room.

It was 10 minutes on silence until I heard the door open. I didn't even look up as Will walked into the room. He tentatively walked towards me and say down taking his stethoscope from his neck.

" I never thought it would hurt so hard losing a patient, I never knew him but... I don't know... It felt like I lost a friend" tears started to brim my eyes as my heart grew heavy.

Will wrapped an arm around my shoulder pulling me towards his side.

"I know y/n, I'll tell you know it doesn't get easy. As a doctor, it's about remembering the ones you saved and knowing you did everything you could for the ones you lost. We all lose people, some hit harder than others but it's knowing you did what you could that that will keep you going"

Looking up at Will he had a sombre look on his face, it had only been a year since his dad died, I fouslt imagine losing the loved one you were treating. I hadn't noticed the silent tears on my cheeks.

" Thanks Will, when did you become so wise" he chuckled

"Since I took a side course in psychology"

"its gonna be ok Y/n you saved two lives today" Will left me with the thought that I saved two lives, two families who don't have to mourn. We sat in silence for the rest of the shift, we only had 20 mins left  anyway.

Eventually my eyes felt tired with the warmth if Wills chest radiating onto my face. If Will would be by my side for it all, I think I would be ok.
