"I should probably tell you about my brother..."

"You don't have to." His cheeks were still wet from tears.

"You told me about your family, I'll tell you about mine." He nods.

"Well, my dad died awhile back from a car accident and my mom started going out every night, coming home drunk. She couldn't pay bills. So I started fighting, then my brother, Chris, got cancer. A tumor in his brain. I haven't visited him in awhile. Maybe we can visit him. I got a call saying that I should visit him soon. Because, they know he isn't going to survive, I guess, I just couldn't. It's just-" I started crying.

"Do you want to go visit him?" I look up at him.

"Do you?" I ask.

"Of course babygirl." He picks me up and twirls me around.

"I guess we are both messed up." I said.

"I guess we are."

(The song Believe by Mumford and Sons is a good song for this part I don't know why, it just fits).

The walk back didn't take as long, we walked in silence.

The ride didn't take long either. It was silent.

The walk inside the hospital wasn't long either, the silence took over once again.

I asked a nurse where his room was. She told me with a pity look.

The walk to his room was quick. And silent.

Doctors walked in and out.

But the one thing I heard was "we're losing him!"

Everything turned into slow motion, I ran into his room screaming.

I ran to his bed his eyes were barely open. I held his hand tightly squeezing it.

He squeezed back.

"Scarlett." He wheezed out.

"Please stay with me Chris, please stay with me, I need you. I love you."

"I love you too." He said softly. His eyes closed and his heart stopped beating.

A doctor put his hand on my shoulder, "you came just in time, we called your house phone multiple times."

"I-I wasn't home." I said. The doctor nodded.

Oliver stood in the doorway, watching everything happen.

I look back at my brother and say "I love you."

I talk to the doctor and ask him if I can keep him at the hospital for awhile longer.

"Of course you can." I smile sadly and walk over to Asher/Oliver.

"He's gone." And then realization hit me.

I won't ever be able to talk to him again, see him smile again, I start tearing up.

"I know." His eyes were watering, "let's go." I look back at my brother.

"I love you." I say to him. And we left.

---

I get off the motorcycle. My mother is home.

I grabbed Oliver's hand and take him to the door. It was unlocked.

I open it. Wine bottles everywhere. I hear screams and cries.

"Mom?!" I scream.

I run into the living room. My mom is screaming and crying pulling on her hair.

I kneel besides her.

"Mom, shhhh calm down." I whisper in her ear. She calms down.

She looks up at me, guilt in her eyes. Then looks away.

I saw what she was looking at.

"Mom no, please mom no."

Before she took the gun, Oliver grabbed it and put it in his pocket.

"Who are you." She asked, her voice shaking.

"I'm your daughters... Boyfriend." He said winking at me.

I roll my eyes.

"Oh..." She starts crying again.

"Mom what's wrong?"

"I don't even know anything about you." She started crying harder, "and now my only son is dead!"

"Mom, look at me." She slowly made eye contact with me.

"No matter how many times you yell at me, call me a slut, I will love you no matter what. You're still my mom. Yeah, we lost dad. Yeah, we lost Chris. But we tried. We tried and tried to save them both. Now it's time we save each other." She looked shocked.

"Honey, I'm so so sorry. I never was a mother and I treated you like shit and I just... I'm scared now. When I started trying to act like one, I knew you wouldn't like me scolding you. So for us, I'll try. I got a job as a receptionist at a spa. And I know about your fight career. I'll let that continue. Okay?"

"Okay."

I look at Oliver... Asher... Whoever he is. No matter I will always love him.

I stood up and asked him, "what should I call you?"

"Depends, what name do you like better?"

"Asher, makes you sound more badass." He laughs.

"I guess I can say I'm falling in love too."

"Good." I say quietly with tears swimming in my eyes.

He kissed me.

"Well, I think it's time to go plan Chris' funeral. Bye you two." My mom walked into her office and I heard a lock.

He looked into my eyes, I looked into his.

Yeah, Chris and my dad died. But I will always have Asher. And my mom.

And that's better than nothing.
