A familiar smell wafts into your tent, waking you up from your afternoon dozing. You yawn and stretch your arms, forcing yourself to get up and out of the dim setting. As much as you enjoy the comfort and peace of the tent, you desperately need to stay awake to finish up some work.

You stack your papers into an organized pile and set them off to the side for later.

A poor attempt at mimicking some knocking sounds can be heard shortly after, followed by the side of the tent being poked repeatedly. You can't help but smile as you stick your head out, seeing your boss standing off to the side with his arms crossed.

Itto's face lights up. He holds up a hand in greeting. "(Y/N)! I'm glad to see you aren't dead yet. Not dead, dead, obviously, because if you were actually dead, I wouldn't be standing here right now. I would be out there getting just—"

"Boss," a voice interrupts.

You move your head to the side, meeting the creator of the delicious smell that's currently present. Her purple gaze meets yours. As always, she has her light green hair tied up into a bun, and the bottom half of her face is covered by the dark cloth.

Pretty...

"(Y/N), how are you feeling?" Shinobu asks, stepping out from behind Itto.

"I'm a bit better, um... thank you!" You focus on Itto instead in an attempt to calm your heart, listening to him complain about having to do some kind of difficult job.

You've known the deputy leader for a few months now, and every time she talks to you, let alone gives eye contact, you immediately become a flustered mess and smile way too much.

Because of such obvious reactions, you're painfully aware of the inevitable winks and nudges from Mamoru, the gentle pushes from Akira, and the loud coughing and side comments from Genta.

Even Ushi has assisted Akira by pushing you with his head.

"Either (Y/N) is smitten by my absolute handsomeness, or they're interested in—"

"Boss. Aren't you supposed to be gathering some plants for Granny Oni?" Shinobu points out, gesturing to the fields with her head. "Genta is waiting."

"Plants... Granny Oni... Genta..." Itto murmurs, eyes squinted. "Ah! I totally forgot! You just saved my life there; I'll pay ya back, just not with mora."

He pats her back a bit too roughly, causing her to lose her footing and stumble forward. You immediately steady her by the shoulders as Itto leaves with a grin and a laugh.

"Sorry, Boss can get a little too intense with his back pats at times." She quickly moves away, much to your disappointment. "Thank you for catching me."

Your heart soars at the way she averts her gaze, and just in that moment, you have some hope that she shares mutual feelings. It's just a simple act of looking away, but it's the first time you've seen her embarrassed overall. Itto and the others are often close to her, but she never once reacted in embarrassment.

You take a gander at her once more, meeting her purple gaze. Shinobu quickly looks away, her eyes crinkling slightly.

Shinobu's color palette is so lovely!! I like her so far based on the quest, and that one scene of her roasting some lavender melons inspired me to write a one-shot that was supposed to involve lavender melons, but it went into a different direction. I'll just save the lavender melon prompt for the next one-shot of her, haha.

The scenes with the Traveler calling for Xiao again and thinking about him are so cute!! I couldn't help the smile on my face. Good luck to anyone pulling for Yelan or Xiao!!
