Chapter 10: Memories Revealed

As Tris got separated from her twin brother, she didn't know she was being chased by Knuckles.

"Oh, great... The winter soldier." Tris groaned in frustration, knowing when Knuckles is going to stop, but he couldn't because he engaged Tris while they slide down the mountain, he eventually managed to knock her off-balance, causing her to land on the edge of a cliff where all his Rings fall out of her pouch.

With Knuckles in front of her, he couldn't but gaze upon her who was hanging on the edge of a cliff with her hands. However, she struggled to climb the cliff, but couldn't because of her balance. She felt her tears falling down her face when she knew her own best friend is going to let her die like this.

"Knuckles, help!" Tris pleaded with him, reaching out her hand for him.

He glared at her without any answers.

"Look, I know you don't remember me at all, but you have to remember! I was your first best friend! It's me Tris, your best friend for ten years!" Tris shouted at him.

"Quit fooling around, hedgehog! I don't even know who you are!" Knuckles growled at her when he was about to attack her, but he let her finish her sentences.

"But you have to remember! Do you remember when we used to play with each other!? Do you remember when I gave you my friendship bracelet!? And do you remember you ask me if I ever forget about you!? Well, I'll never forget about you, Knux! I will always remember you, Knux...!" Without a warning, Tris' hands are slipping and she knew she was falling off the cliff.

Suddenly, when she was about to accept her fate, Tris didn't know that she was saved by Knuckled who grabbed her small hand the large hand, which shocked her.

"Huh?"

"I got you!" Knuckles said as he pulled her up and helped her stand until the two gazed at each other's eyes.

Tris couldn't help but stare at his violet eyes. "You... saved me...!?" She said in shock, "Why did you save me?"

Knuckles grinned at her. "I didn't want my best friend to be killed."

She gasped, and her eyes widened. "So you finally remembered!?"

With a look on his face, he didn't respond to her until they heard a voice calling out for her. She knew it was her twin brother, Sonic.

"Sonic!" Tris called out for him.

Sonic leaped towards Knuckles and knocked him out, "Stay away from my sister!"

"Sonic, no! Don't hurt him!" Tris pleaded with him.

"I know, but I didn't want him to hurt you as you told me he was your childhood best friend," Sonic told her.

Knuckles growled at him. "How dare you!?"

"Does anyone ever tell you that you have some serious anger issues problem?" Sonic mocked Knuckles' temper, to which the red echidna replied that he knows nothing about him.

Sonic retorted that echidnas have a habit of ruining his life, but Knuckles tells Sonic and Tris that he lost everything because of them. Knuckles proceeded to explain that years ago, his tribe was on the verge of its greatest victory. Having located Longclaw, the last of the owl warriors, the tribe was heading out to get her Emerald secrets. A young Knuckles wanted to join them, but his father kept him from coming along, insisting that his moment to honor their tribe would come, but that this was not the moment. However, he never saw his father or his tribe again after they left.

Despite it all, Sonic and Tris sympathized with Knuckles, admitting that they both lost everything that day. As Knuckles let down his guard, however, Tails restrained him from behind with a gadget of his.

Calling Sonic and Tris out for deceiving him, Knuckles breaks free, despite Sonic's attempts to defend himself.

Sonic tried passing the compass over to Tails, but Robotnik swooped in in his Egg Mobile and snatched the compass before firing some missiles that knocks Tails out cold. With Sonic hurrying out to help Tails, Knuckles hitched a ride with Robotnik, puzzled that Sonic and Tris chose Tails over the compass, although Robotnik noted that friendship is a weakness, much to Knuckles' suspicion.

Immediately after, an avalanche occurs, forcing Sonic and Tris to take Tails and try snowboarding away while Robotnik and Knuckles escape.
