Desert Cactus

Left for dead

Desolate and dry

Heat so intense, even birds can't fly

Drought so immense, I thought I'd die

My crusted roots run deep in the ground

Deprived of water, I can't make a sound

My scented petals, now thorny spikes

Defiant survival, adorned in light

The parched throat reaches the oasis

I'll still find happiness no matter how hard you make this

For the starved one shall eat

Though you wish for my demise

And the sun shall still rise

On this neglected cactus
