Chapter 42: Tea Party and Bugs

Start from the beginning

Janette Terav, known as the most favored woman of the duke, was seated just right next to the seat at the head of the table.

She didn't have any idea whose seat it was since it didn't have any name. But of course, she knew that the main seats were only reserved for the masters.

However, she was not sure whether the seat right next to her was the Duchess's or the Duke's.

And just as she was thinking about it, Leonor announced the arrival of Duke Calex and Atallie.

"His Grace and Her Grace are here."

Everyone stood from their seats to welcome the duke and the duchess.

Janette was surprised. She didn't expect to see the duke and the duchess together.

Isn't this just a gathering for women? Why is the duke here?

Nevertheless, she was thrilled to see the man that she always adored.

Janette flashed a blooming and graceful smile befitting of a well-bred noble lady who grew up from a noble household.

Janette's yellow eyes seemed to spark as she looked intently and blazingly at Duke Calex.

Atallie, whose arm was hooked together with Duke Calex's arm, noticed the intense gaze of Janette at a first fleeting glance.

She knew that their arrival would garner such a reaction from Janette. But although it had the effect that she wanted, Atallie wanted to see more.

Thus, Atallie moved closer to Duke Calex as she slightly leaned on his broad and sturdy shoulder.

Meanwhile, Duke Calex also noticed Janette's gaze at him. However, his attention was entirely more focused on Atallie.

And because of this, Duke Calex saw what Atallie just did.

Of course, this action of Atallie was also seen by the onlookers, especially Janette.

Janette's smile became stiff and her sparkling yellow eyes seemed to dim and narrowed dangerously as she swept a sharp and quick glance at Atallie before steadying herself once again.

Duke Calex escorted Atallie to her seat - which was the seat right next to Janette.

Although she already expected it, Janette was still feeling a bit bothered and uncomfortable by the fact that she would be sitting right next to the duchess until the tea party ended.

And how about the duke? Will he be joining us?

Pulling the chair for Atallie to sit in, Duke Calex gently planted a soft kiss at Atallie's hand afterward.

This subtle action earned gasps of surprises and envies from the crowd.

They could not believe what they were seeing.

Although not fully aware of what was happening in the estate, everyone knew that the duchess was just another pawn of His Majesty The King, just like every lady currently present in the tea party.

But why does it seem like it was different? That the duchess was different from the rest of them?

Each had their own thoughts and opinions once again. Most of them even started harboring ill intentions and bad feelings towards Atallie.

They could think whatever they want and whatever they could think about. They didn’t know that Atallie was not even the least bit interested in whatever they could think about and wherever their thoughts could go.

For Atallie, she only had one goal - and that was to get rid of all of the bugs flying around.

She might not be able to do it right away, for now, but it didn't mean that she had to endure it and stay put.
