"Fatima"

I was in the kitchen cooking when I heard someone called my name,

"sorry I didn't inform you earlier before bringing hafsa home" aman said,

I turned to look at him where he was standing, he looked really guilty, don't tell me he thinks I'll blame him for this. I know it isn't his fault, if I were in his shoes I'd have done same for someone in need of my help, moreover she looks like she was in a very bad state.

"no need to apologize, it's fine" I said giving him a tight smile.

He nodded smiling back but he still had a guilt filled expression.

The next day Aman left for work early because he had an appointment. After finishing all my duas and chores, I went to check up on hafsa in the guest room. Aman explained everything about her to me yesterday and I really felt pity for her, no woman deserved to be maltreated.

I waited for few seconds when I knocked on the door before it got opened,

"salam alaykum" I said smiling when I entered,

"walaykum salam" she replied with an expression I couldn't decipher but I knew it's not near friendly,

"how're you feeling now, I hope you're feeling better now" I said still smiling not minding her facial expression,

"uhmm" she replied nodding,

"okay, I've prepared something to eat, it's on the dining table" I said still smiling as I closed the door, I didn't mind her attitude because sometimes people's reactions depends on the situation they're in, I don't expect her to be friendly when she has gone through a lot lately.

I was eating silently on the dining table when I saw hafsa coming,

"hafsa, over here" I said gesturing for her to come towards the dining,

"I'm bored, I'm on work leave, and aman is also not here why don't I make friends with her since she'll be here for a while" I thought to myself,

"sit down please" I said to her smiling when I saw she was standing when she got to the dining,

The chair slightly creaked as she sat on it, I served her the dish I prepared.
I shifted my gaze to her slightly, I saw her rushing the food, I giggled internally,

"maybe she's hungry that's why she was grumpy earlier" I thought to myself,

I was still looking at her when she caught me, so she reduced her pace and ate slowly.

"how do you feel living the life my sister was supposed to live" I heard someone said lowly when I was washing the plates we used earlier,

"excuse me, what?" I said as I turned to look at the person, I saw hafsa glaring at me,

"I said the meal was nice, thank you" she said faking a smile,

Did I hear her wrong? or I'm hallucinating,

"Alhamdulillah for everything" I said smiling too but it didn't reach my heart, I was still contemplating maybe I didn't hear her well but Allah knows best.

She faked another smile as she left the kitchen.

Days passed by, I and Aman's relationship improved, though we are not yet lovey dovey, but we understand each other and freely converse also, even if sometimes he completely blanks out and shuts me out I'm still waiting for the day he'll finally open up.

Hafsa hasn't left yet, something is odd about her, sometimes she acts normal, but other times she acts like she's angry about something, though she only shows that to me and never to Aman, she acts all nice around him even if he sets a lot of boundaries.
she pleaded with him to stay for few more days because she doesn't wants anyone to know where she's yet.

I don't really mind her attitude because as far as I'm concerned she's still a guest and I've to treat her right, and it's also sunnah.

I, aman and hafsa sat on dining eating dinner silently,

"ohh Fatima, you included shrimp in your dish today, don't you know Aman doesn't like shrimps, he's allergic to it, I knew that because he visits us a lot when he lost his first wife, my sister" she said smiling,

I was already feeling guilty, I didn't know he was allergic to it, I'd have never included it. I turned to look at him, his face softened when he saw the look on my face,

"I'm sorry_" I wasn't able to complete my sentence when he cut me off,

"I'm no longer allergic to it, I like it very much now that my wife prepared it" he said.

All the guilt I was feeling washed away, I was very happy he stood by me, though I know her sister is late and she was his first wife but I still don't like when her matter is brought up, especially carelessly like how hafsa did.

I looked at her and I saw her scowling at me,

"why is she scowling at me" I thought to myself,

She glared at Aman but he didn't see her because he was facing his food squarely, she stood up angrily pushing the chair backwards as she left for her room.

I looked at Aman as he was eating and I saw beads of sweat forming on his forehead, before a blink of an eye, I saw him flew towards the room.
I followed him swiftly to see what was happening, he was vomiting in the toilet sink. When he finished, I gently sprinkled water and cleaned his face thoroughly. He walked out of the toilet and sat on the bed, I followed him behind,

"you're still allergic to shrimps right" I asked,

"uhmm" he nodded,

"you would have just said it and stopped eating the meal, this wouldn't have happened" I said feeling guilty,

"and you think I'll let anyone see your fault when it's actually my fault, I made a mistake, I'd have let you know my allergies beforehand, so I'm sorry" he said looking at me,

I didn't know what to say, he hid my faults although he knew it will affect him like this.
Upon hearing what he said, I hugged him tightly, he was stiff for a moment because I caught him unawares but then he relaxed and hugged me back,

" jazakallah khairan, thank you" I said to him against his back,

"shhhhh" he replied,

I smiled enjoying his embrace, though I wanted to remain in that position forever but I still haven't cleared the dishes so I broke the embrace, he looked like he didn't like what I did,

"I want to clear the dishes on the dining table" I said blushing,

"I'll go with you" he said standing, but
I sat him down,

"you have to take your rest, don't worry I'll be fine" I said assuring him,

He didn't want to agree but after much persuasion he gave in, he said he'll observe two raka'ahs before sleeping so I left him in the room.

I was happily clearing the table thinking of Aman when I saw a phone lying on the table, it's neither mine nor Aman's,

"it must be hafsa's" I thought to myself,

It isn't good to spy on another person's belongings, so I planned on leaving it there with the intention of returning it back to her when I'm done with what I'm doing, I was about to leave when I saw a message pop up on the phone, my eyes looked at it on reflex,

"yusuf: hope you're not forgetting the mission" that was what the message contained,

"This message looks weird, what mission?" I thought to myself,

I saw her approaching surveying everywhere like she was looking for something, immediately she sighted her phone close to me, she quickly grabbed it, opened it, then she looked at me with fear clearly written on her face, I wanted to say something to her but she quickly zoomed off.
"what is she up to?", I said to myself looking in the direction she left.
