Everything felt... pleasantly foggy.

Sure, she had just woken up from her surgery, but Kaia was so pumped up with painkillers, it felt like she was floating on a wad of cotton candy.

Taylor was rushing from one side of the hospital bed to the other, trying to adjust her pillows and her blankets so she could be more comfortable but she really didn't need to because everything was comfortable in that very moment. At least, until the dose of painkillers wore off, Kaia figured. But for the time being, she was practically in heaven.

She beamed up at the flustered blonde, holding out her hand to grab her forearm just before Taylor reached for the pillows once again, probably for the fourth or fifth time since Kaia had woken up.

"Babe," Kaia sighed, her voice still a little hoarse. She ran her thumb in small circles over Taylor's bare arm, pulling her down toward her. "I promise, I have never been more comfortable than I am right now. I mean, these drugs are..."

She cut herself off, letting out a low whistle and fell into a fit of breathy giggles, just thinking about how high she still was.

Taylor hesitated for a second before she decided it was okay to let go of the pillow. She couldn't help but smile down at her girlfriend, letting out a quiet laugh along with her.

"I'm glad you're enjoying this," she chuckled, pressing a tender kiss on Kaia's forehead. "It's not like I've been going crazy all morning thinking about you in that operating room—"

"It was just a small operation," Kaia huffed, dragging her hand down Taylor's arm until she found her fingers. "It was a lot worse when I had my appendix removed when I was nine."

"Still," Taylor huffed, sitting down on the edge of the hospital bed. "I worry about you. I can't help it."

Kaia gave Taylor's hand a weak squeeze, caressing her knuckles with the fingers on her other hand. "I'm okay."

"I know," Taylor murmured, leaning her forehead against Kaia's and pecking her lips softly.

"C'mere," Kaia told her softly, moving to the other side of the bed to make some room for Taylor to join her. The blonde hesitated for a moment but when Kaia playfully glared at her, she laid down next to her, turning on her side so she could carefully spoon her. "Thank you for being here for me."

"Always." Taylor kissed Kaia's forehead once more, just so immensely relieved and glad that she was okay. "I really don't have to go to New York in the morning. Just say the word and I'll stay."

"Yes, you do," Kaia chuckled, lacing her fingers through Taylor's and holding their hands together over her stomach. "You've got a lot of work to get done and deadlines to meet and you can't do that while babying me through my recovery."

"I'm not— pffft," Taylor huffed, denying the accusations. "I'm not babying you. I just want to take care of you. And I feel really bad that I can't be there for you at home. And I know your dad and Layla are flying in tomorrow afternoon, but you're going to be alone for like ten hours, and, I mean, what if you need something? Who's taking you home and making sure you're comfortable in bed? What if something happens?"

"Nothing's going to happen, baby," Kaia couldn't help but roll her eyes at her panicky girlfriend. "I feel great. Like, I know it's the painkillers, but I'm going to have the prescription for the next week, so I'll be fine! And I'm sure Spencer is more than qualified in making sure I get home safe and sound."
