Evaryone is slightly older. Meilin being 15 years old, mirabel being 17 years old, and so on.

School's out for Meilin and her friends. She planned on spending the summer with miriam, priya and abby, but her parents had other plans.

"Mei-mei, your friends are here" she heard her mom call for her.
"Be right there"
She hurriedly went to her friends and hugged them.

"We'll be back by 8, mom" mei said and started walking out the door.
"And where do you think you're going?"
"To priya's house..."

Ming stared at her daughter. Mei began to sweat and started avoiding eye contact. She groaned before talking again.

"Fiiiine... we're going to the theater to watch a movie"
"Mhm. Anything else?"

Mei let out a sigh and hugged ming.
"I love you"
Ming smiled and let go of her daughter.
"Be back by 8, okay?"
"Mhm. Bye mom, bye dad"

They started walking to the theater.

"Soooo... yall got any ideas on how we should spend our summer break?" Miriam asked.
"Fangirling over 4town" abby said and started laughing maniacally.

After the movie, everyone went home.
Mei arrived back home and found her parents packing their stuff.

"Mom? Dad?"

Ming jumped a little.
"Oh, meimei, you're back early. Did you eat yet? We left you some food at the table"
She guided her daughter to the dining table and waited for her to finish eating.

"Why are you guys packing stuff?"
"Meimei, we wanted to tell you this as a surprise"
Mei's eyebrows raised a little.
"We're going on vacation!"
"Really?"
"To another country!"
"What?!"

Ming held mei's hands.
"Isnt it exciting? We're going on a trip out of the country"
"Where?"
"To colombia" her face grew brighter. Ming couldnt help but smile.

Mei on the other hand, her gloomy expression made her mom worried.
"Is there something wrong meimei?"
She erased her expression, smiled and shook her head.
"Nothing, mom. Im really excited about this. See" she smiled and hugged her.
"Im glad you're happy, meimei"
"Im going to my room now. Goodnight, mom, goodnight dad"

Mei buried her face in her pillow and screamed. She stood up and calmed herself while pacing around her room.
"This is fine. This is fine. Everything is fine. Its not like we're gonna stay there the whole summer. I can still hang out with my girlfriends after the trip"

"We're gonna stay there the whole summer!!" Ming said excitedly.
"What? Whyyyyy?"
"So we can relax and enjoy our time there"
"But..."
"No buts young lady. Everyone needs to relax somehow, that includes you"

She thought for a moment.
"What about the temple?"
"I already asked your grandmother to look after the temple while we're away"
"Cant i just stay here?" Mei pleaded

Ming let out a sigh.
"This is going to be a family trip, meimei. You, me and your dad"
"I understand, but why the whole summer?"
"Because we got another surprise for you at the end of summer"

Mei just looked at her with an unimpressed look.
"Oh dont look at me like that. This surprise is different"
"If you say so"

The next day, miriam, abby and priya visited mei at their home.

"Hey, mei, wanna hang out with us?"
Miriam said.
"I cant today, guys. I got a lot of packing to do" she groaned and looked at her mom.
"Packing? Are you going somewhere?" Abby said and started looking around.
"Yea... we're going to colombia for a family trip"
"And how long is that trip gonna be?" Priya asked
"The whole summer" 

"The whole summer?!"
