Kiss me under the moon in this drunken state of ours - Jeongin

Start from the beginning

"I'm not heavy, am I?" Your voice mumbled, cheeks hot from either the alcohol or the close proximity. "If I'm heavy, I'll walk."

"No, no, you're fine. Just hold on to me," he assured.

And you stayed like that. For a couple minutes, you just rested your cheek on his back, enjoying the cool ambience at night. It wasn't cold, in fact, it was particularly warm due to summer having arrived. Or maybe it was the fluttering in your stomach from having your crush offering to take care of you, even if the reason being you were drunk. Nonetheless, you liked how calm the streets were and how the stars lit up the sky with their presence — the world would be quite the dark place without them.

Several moments later, your eyes caught a sight worth admiring. You gasped quietly, nudging the boy holding you.

"Hey, let's go to the beach."

Jeongin gave you a confused look, following your gaze to the right where indeed an empty beach was seen meters away, but the request had him considering for a good minute.

"How come? Don't you think it's too late to go play on the beach at this hour?"

"Who said we can't go at night? The waves are prettiest by then!" You claimed confidently. "Pleasee, it's not that far away and it'll only be for a little while. I don't want this night with you to end just yet..."

The last sentence had stole his attention. Whether if it was true or just an excuse, who was he to deny you your happiness? After all, you looked best when smiling. He could never take that away from you.

"Alright, let's go then."

"Really?? Thank youu!" You clung to him tighter, lips forming into a cheery grin.

He continued in the direction you wanted, eventually shoes coming in contact with the sand. You tapped him on the shoulder, signalling you wanted off, and he understood. Once he let you down, you walked closer to the shore, not completely stable but at least you didn't fall. The cool air felt so refreshing, it helped you think straight, though you were still quite intoxicated.

The ocean was calling out to you. Moonlight sprinkled diamonds down onto the dark blue waves, making the whole sea glow in this black obsidian night. Your heart felt at both peace and war. Why did the emptiness look so beautiful?

Jeongin soon joined you in admiring the dark. You never looked his way and just kept your eyes fixated on the horizon where nothing lied visible, for if you did, you might've done something stupid. Instead, your lips began to move and form words you couldn't stop from leaving.

"What do you think of Haewon?"

"Haewon?" He repeated, confused by your choice of topic. "I mean, she's nice?"

"Is she pretty?" You continued to ask. Inside, you were telling yourself to shut up, but you were too jealous and drunk to listen to the warnings.

"Yes, she is."

Ouch.

"Do you... like her?"

You could feel his stare burn through the side of your head, yet kept facing forward. Deep down, you were scared of the answer. You were scared that you had ruined all your chances on making him love you back. You were scared he could see right through you and felt sympathy because of how obvious you were.

"Can you look at me?" Jeongin asked.

"...Why?" You hesitantly asked back.

"Because I want you to believe me when I say this." Something in the tone of his voice had magically pulled your eyes to look at his. He was absolutely divine under the moon like this. "I like someone else. Someone that cares too much for others over herself, and smiles for the world and not her alone. Someone who doesn't realize the effect she has on people. My heart can't help but fall for a girl like her."

Your gaze fell down upon hearing his words, staring empty-heartedly at your feet. So he does have a love interest... Why were you still disappointed when you knew it all along? You clenched your fists tightly, unwilling to give up before you even started.

"I can make you happier."

The sentence flowed out of your mouth naturally. You felt confidence in yourself, although you weren't sure if it was the alcohol speaking or you.

Jeongin blinked, in disbelief from what he heard. "Happier how?"

"Like this."

You took a step closer and pulled his face lower until your lips came crashing down onto his. Your eyes closed, not wanting to see his shock because it would have made you back out. The beating of your heart spread flames to your whole body, burning and tingling your skin.

That kiss — that kiss was everything and nothing at the same time. All the little emotions you kept hidden inside had unraveled itself, telling him how much you wanted this to work and how it hurt watching from the side. Couldn't you be the main lead just this once? Even if you were finally expressing yourself, he probably thought it didn't really mean anything because you were drunk. But that drunk state of yours is what got you to do these crazy things you've always wanted, so is it really crazy and meaningless?

Your grip loosened and your hands slowly fell from his face. You opened your eyes, hoping it wasn't a dream, but you just couldn't tell in the darkness where he looked so perfect next to the stars.

"I... I like you–"

Jeongin caught you off, this time with his own lips. You were in shock, but his embrace felt so right, you eased into his touch. This didn't feel real anymore. It was too good to be real. He pulled away, and finally, you saw his face. His eyes were bright; brighter than the galaxy, than the universe itself. A thousand stories could be told with that single look.

"That wasn't a mistake, right? You meant it?" He asked, unable to accept the possibility of it being a drunk confession that didn't come from the heart.

"I–I meant it. But, are you drunk, or have I gone mad?"

"I did drink but only a little more than I can handle. So you really like me?"

You swallowed, then nodded. That was the moment his smile illuminated the night sky. He took you into a hug, and whispered next to your ear:

"I really like you too."

The moon was so beautiful, looking at it from down here in the arms of the one you love. Although you were not in the best state and it was pitch black, this scene would be the clearest and brightest memory of your life.
