As things for Dylan got tougher, she grew closer with Jake. Jake began to tell her about his life previously. That made Dylan feel comforted. She confided in Jake so much, that she Dylan cried for him.
She didn't cry over him for no reason, she cried with him. When Jake said he was crying or was going to cry, Dylan felt his pain. Whenever he said he felt unwanted, or that nobody liked him and he wasn't good enough, Dylan was there to remind him of the good he's done in her life and many others.
As Dylan's mother started to leave her at night to babysit her sister Breelin, and her dad started up drinking again, she needed Jake more than ever.
Dylan would call or text Jake in the middle of the night, crying, unable to contain her emotions. She would tell him about her issues so much, she felt like she was a bother. Dylan felt like that with everyone she knew. It was just part of her.
On the night of her thirteenth birthday, Dylan told Jake that she had been cutting herself.
