---------------------
I knocked four times on the front door of my best friend's house, readjusting the backpack bag on my shoulder as the door opened.

"Alyssa? Ben's not here he's a-"

"At Nick's, yes I know. I actually came to talk to you Mr. Mason. I need your help." I said.

"Oh well in that case uh...come on in." He said, smiling at me and opening the door wider so I could come inside.

"Is it your parents again?" He asked.

"No, not this time. I actually need help with a history essay." I said.

"Now I'm interested. But Ben never said anything about a history essay?" Mr. Mason questioned.

"It's not uh...it's not an assignment actually. It's extra credit. I'm kinda...failing that class right now." I said sheepishly.

"Well now we can't have that. What's it on?" He asked.

"The American Revolution." I stated, pulling out a notebook and a pen out of my bag as we sat at the table in the kitchen.

"Okay. Well for starters, the war began on April nineteenth, seventeen seventy five. It was the rebellion of the thirteen colonies who declared themselves independent in seventeen seventy six. France signed alliance with the US in seventeen seventy eight which escalated into a war between the French, British, Spanish and the people from the Netherlands. Many American's participated in boycotts and destruction of a shipment of British Tea at the B-"

"Boston Tea Party. I know that part." I said, cutting him off as I wrote down what he said.

"Good. Some patriots in Massachusetts responded to the closing of the Boston port by setting up a shadow government which took control of the province outside of Boston. In seventeen seventy five fighting broke out between Massachusetts militia units and British army at Lexington and Concord. In July of seventy six the Continental Congress formally declared independence." He said, pausing so I could catch up on writing.

My phone buzzed in my pocket, indicating a text message.

I put down my pen and took my phone out of my pocket and reading the message from Ben.

You know I'm at Nick's house right?

Puzzled I replied,

Yeah I know, why?

I continued writing until my phone buzzed again.

Hal texted and said you were at my house...?

"Is that Ben?' Mr. Mason asked.

"Yeah." I said, a smile tugging at the corner of my mouth as I typed my reply.

Yeah I'm at your house. I needed help with my history essay so I came over.

"He never leaves you alone does he?" Mr. Mason asked with a light laugh.

"More like I never leave him alone." I replied, looking down at my phone at his message.

Just making sure you're okay.

This time I actually smiled as I typed out that I was fine and continued writing.

"He worries about you. Always has." Mr. Mason said.
