Chapter 2

I pulled into the Surf Cafe parking lot an hour after Jax dropped me off.  I needed to make sure I could book the deck for Jax's birthday this Friday before anyone else took it. When I walked inside I went straight over to the counter to make my booking and with great success.  Friday wasn't taken. I decided I might as well have dinner while I’m here and that’s exactly what I did. I took a seat out on the deck so I could watch the waves hitting the rocks on the beach. Ever since we moved here Jax and I made it a habit to stop in once a month to have a meal and then a stroll along the beach or camp for the night in a spot along the coast. It has always been our favourite place.

My meal was just brought over to my table when I noticed a guy standing at the counter making his order. I probably wouldn't have taken any notice of him, but he kept glancing over at me. He was quite tall, but not as tall as Jax, and roughly the same build as him.  When he turned around again we locked eyes and I blushed badly knowing I just got caught staring, but to make matters worse he started walking over to my table.

I started to freak. I haven’t had a boyfriend before, not that I haven’t kissed a few boys, but Jax always scared them off and unless I was talking to Jax or his shit for brains mates. I was a blushing mess when it came to hot guys.

“Um hey, is it alright if I take a seat?” Asked the sexy stranger.

I looked around unsure. I had a very good instinct when it came to these things, but nothing went ding in my head so...

“Yeah sure.” I said confused.

“What’s your name?” The sexy stranger asked.

“Hmm I think you should tell me your name first seems as your sitting at my table.” I said blushing.

“I’m Rex, nice to meet you.” He said holding out his hand.

I stared at him as I took in his profile. He was definitely handsome and he had the most unusual honey coloured eyes I have ever seen. He had a black muscle top on with a black leather jacket, some dark blue jeans that looked like they were made just for him, and a pair of black high top shoes. He looked like he had just jumped out of a teen magazine.

“Hi, I’m Stormy.” I stated as I shook his hand.

As soon as I touched him his smell hit me at full force. He smelled like tree bark and mint mixed with something else I couldn't quite put my finger on. I was starting to feel uncomfortable and something was telling me he didn’t just come to my table for a quick flirt like I thought. I looked around the diner and there were plenty of people around so I was safe if this so called Rex tried anything.

“What do you want?” I blurted out.

The waitress walked over before he could answer and placed his meal on the table; steak, eggs, and chips with a side-salad. It looked delicious. I watched the waitress walk away. When I turned back, Rex was staring at me.

“What?” I asked.

“You’re really beautiful.” He said as he cut into his steak.

“Um thanks I think, so what do you want?” I stared back at him.

“So are you from around here?” He asked casually, ignoring my question.

“Yup sure am, and you?” I watched the confusion on his face and then it was gone as fast as it came.

“I didn't know there were any packs in this area?” He stated, but it was more of a question.

“Packs? And those are?” I asked confused.

“Come on you don't have to play dumb. I know what you are and I know you know I’m one too” he said matter of factly.

For some reason this irritated me. I mean come on, he doesn’t even know me and he has the cheek to say I was playing dumb. I honestly had no idea what he was blabbering on about.

“Look Rex or whatever your name is. I don't know what you’re talking about so don't even try and call me dumb.” I spat back.

Rex carried on eating his food. I hadn't even touched mine.

“Your food is getting cold.” He said nodding to my plate.

I picked up a fry and slowly started eating and that’s when I realised what the other scent was. It smelt just like Jax, it smelt just like me! I was starting to freak out. If he was like me and Jax that means there could be more. It also meant that if he could smell my scent then he knew my secret and in turn he would know Jax's secret too. I had to get out of here, I had to leave and find Jax. There was no way I could stay here with him.

“I’m leaving.” I said as I started getting up from my chair.

“What? No you haven’t even eaten your food.” He said looking disappointed.

“I can't stay here, I’ve got to go.” Confusion flashed over his face along with disappointment.

“I’m sorry I was rude before I didn't mean to be so blunt. If you’re a rogue that’s fine I can help you.”

I sat back down and stared at him; I thought he was crazy. I had no idea what he was talking about.

“What’s a rogue and why do you think I’m one?” I asked getting even more confused.

“What’s a rogue? You’re kidding right?” He said smirking at me.

He was looking at me like I was an idiot. I don’t know why I was letting him get to me, but he was starting to piss me off.

“Look, cut the bullshit. I have no idea what you’re going on about, seems to me like you’re a little crazy.” I said as I pointed to my head and made small circles with my finger just to make out how crazy I actually thought he was.

And then he laughed. It was such a manly laugh and I couldn't help but smile and the next thing I knew I was laughing too the anger leaving me as fast as it came. This situation was getting even more bizarre by the minute.

“You really don't know what packs or rogues are?” He asked searching my face.

“No I don’t, am I supposed to?” I replied.

“Well holy shit! How can you be what you are and not know what packs or rogues are? That’s impossible.”

“And what is it that I’m supposed to be?..... And maybe if you cut to the chase and tell me what a pack and a rogue is I would know.” I growled.

He laughed again and this time I didn't find it funny.

“You're even more beautiful when you’re mad you know.” He said once he stopped laughing.

I just glared at him.

“A pack is a family your wolf belongs to.  Every wolf has one and if they don't that makes you a rogue or lone wolf, and that’s dangerous for yourself and other wolves.”

I didn't know what to say. He was talking about wolves so openly, therefore he definitely knew my secret and I was screwed. I didn't know what to do. He saw the hesitation in my face and put up his hand to stop me from bolting.

“It’s okay; I can see from your face that you really didn't know. This is unusual. How do you not have a pack? Where are your parents?”

I didn't know what to do. Do I tell him? I don't even know him, but yet he hadn't threatened me and my wolf was actually content to sit here.  So she saw no threat...

“I don't know.” I whispered.

Hey guys!!! Well I decided to upload a picture of what i think Rex would be like. I chose a pix that wasn't face on because i know everyone pictures there characters differently. Thanks Rastalove
