Chapter 9: Asylum

Liana's at the medical center trying to walk. The physical therapist says, "Good, Liana. One more step." Liana is grunting and the physical therapist says, "Okay. Okay, that's enough for today. It goes for you too, Adam." Adam grunts and says, "I know my limits." The physical therapist gives Liana her crutches and says, "If you overdo it, you'll undo all your hard work." Adam says, "If I listened to people like you, I'd still be in bed." The physical therapist says, "Good work today, sweetie." Liana softly says, "Thanks." Adam looks at Liana and says, "Hurts, doesn't it?" Liana says, "Like you wouldn't believe." Adam, walks over to Liana and says, "I think you're getting off way too easily." Liana says, "Excuse me?" Adam says, "You have to learn to push through the pain. If we all sat down every time it hurt this country never would've been built." Liana says, "Well, I doubt the Founding Fathers broke their legs in four places." Liana crutches to Adam and he says, "What happened, bad pile-up in cheerleading practice?" As Liana crutches away, Adam says, "No, no, seriously. How'd you end up in here?" Liana says, "A horse got spooked. I ended up under its hooves." Adam says, "Hmm, I'm guessing that's not a good place to be. I'm Adam." Adam places his hand out and Liana shakes his hand and says, "Liana." Adam says, "Alroght, Liana... we both know that you have one more lap in you on this puppy. Let's see it." Liana angrily says, "How about not?" Adam says, "I know struggle is probably not in your vocabulary... but just to let you know, here, it's credo." Liana says, "For your information, I haven't walked in a month." Adam says, "Feeling sorry for yourself may work now, but it's not gonna get you up a flight of stairs, is it?" Liana says, "Are you always this obnoxious?" Adam says, "I'm just telling you how it is. No one's ever honest with girls like you. Bet you have a boyfriend that's always protecting you, right? But he's not here. No one's gonna fight this battle for you. You're on your own. See you around." As Adam is walking away, Liana glares at him, but knows that he's right and sighs.
