Yu Yan stared and stared but his seatmate didn't give a single glance at him.

At this point, Yu Yan felt it seemed... deliberate?

He squinted his eyes and continued to openly stare, making it like a game to see the other person's reaction if he did look back.

Unfortunately, the start of the second exam happened first.

The surface of every table dented downwards and flipped. On the table was a blurry glass enclosure that only showed the outline of what was likely to be disassembled parts of a gun. Yu Yan could barely identify the silhouette of an assault rifle from the obscurity.

Suddenly, all the doors to the exam hall closed shut. Metal shielding slid down the long windows and the once-bright exam hall turned dark for a moment, before blaring red lights lit up the room.

"Attention course applicants", a smooth but monotonous female android's voice sounded, silencing further the already quiet room. "You have ten minutes to assemble one gun, ten minutes to assemble one minicomputer device, and twenty minutes to shoot at least three targets per applicant. Inability to comply with the provided time is equivalent to disqualification. All terminals are disabled temporarily. Cheating of any sort is equivalent to disqualification."

At least three targets? Yu Yan pondered. Did it mean that the minimum requirement meant shooting three targets but there was no set upper limit? Where would the extra targets and bullets come from? Was the second exam another hunt for materials like the first round?

"To pass the second exam, the applicants must hit the target on the 8th ring or higher, on an average. All applicants are advised to improvise for what they're lacking."

Yu Yan stabilized himself into his best state and focused. Another digital black timer came down from the ceiling. The moment it started its count down, the glass enclosure on everybody's table split opened.

On it was the disassembled parts of a gun that Yu Yan had guessed, a device, and other spare parts that didn't seem to be necessary, as well as the occasional smart screwdriver and some tools.

Yu Yan looked around. Everyone had different sets of guns and device parts, but the same tools. The guns were all real. The weight and the structure suggested it. Much more, was that these were either modern guns or modified guns that were more complicated to assemble than the other types. The assault rifle in front of Yu Yan wasn't an exemption. Yet, something else occupied his mind—

What was the use of the spare parts? To confuse them? However, he did notice that all the unnecessary parts were made of a hard type of polymer.

Instead of scurrying to assemble this randomly provided gun, Yu Yan studied the spare materials on his table. It was the same material used for polymer ammunition!

Yu Yan contemplated as he began to assemble the assault rifle. When he finished, his hands automatically grabbed the device parts. Based on the components soldered on the chip, it seemed to be a digital lock-picking tool.

Yu Yan wasn't the only one with this idea.

On his right side, Gazef had already noticed the rectangular pads, not only on the doors but also on the window panes. With the addition of the computer components, it was adamant that the targets and the bullets needed to be sought outside.

Yes, there wasn't a single bullet to be found in any of the tables inside the exam hall.

Despite his wife chasing endeavors and schemes, Gazef took his enrollment at Margaux Academy very seriously.

Although the Nurdyk have better technology, they also heavily relied on the same technology, leaving the average Nurdyk, with the exception of the Alphas, to be slightly weaker than the average Alhoshian. The latter always did prioritize their strict and powerful military, thus there were many military schools used for professional training, approved by the government, and Margaux had always settled on top of the ranking list.
