We all have bad days, and a good drink can soothe the nerves, though I doubt you have to worry about tiny travelers testing medicine concoctions in your cups.
To make a long story short, bitches at work tried Kolvyr, so he's tired and in need of a swisher. However, because everyone in the house was supposedly intelligent, there was no reason to look for or think anyone was using one of the drinking glasses, let alone using it as an impromptu chemistry lab. So, Kiyoko and Gale's experiment got cut off by an onslaught of alcohol, and Kolvyr begins to reconsider his coping mechanism after a quick rescue by a certain just-as-cup-sized captain straight out of a near-coma.
