Remus' eyebrows furrowed, "But, why would she want that?"

"She's insane! Who cares?" Sirius groaned, running a hand through his hair. "The point is, you really thought I'd do that, Moony?"

Remus didn't answer.

"Because I wouldn't."

"You don't like her, but that doesn't mean she doesn't have feelings for you." Remus mumbled grumpily, his jaw clenched. "She said I knew the person she was in love with very well."

"You do know him very well." Sirius hinted. "In fact, you know him better than anyone else."

"Is it Prongs?" Remus questioned. "I wouldn't have guessed it, but I guess it would make sense..."

"No, who the fuck likes Prongs?"

"I'd like to inform you that I am dating Lilian bloody Evans!" James retorted, unable to hide the hint of pride in his voice. "The Lily Evans seems to like me, thank you very much!"

"Wormtail?" Remus continued, Sirius' expression becoming more desperate by the second. "Marlene? Lily? Dorcas?"

He paused for a moment, his eyes widening. "Dear God, is it McGonagall?!"

Sirius reached for the enchanted bell hanging right above Remus' head, shaking it vigorously in an attempt to alert Madame Pomfrey. Surely, he needed immediate medical attendance if he had just said Callisto was in love with their Transfiguration professor. James slapped his hand away from the bell, reminding him that the two of them should have left the infirmary a long time ago.

"It's you, Moony!' Sirius exclaimed, shaking him from his shoulders. "Callisto is in love with you!"

And at that moment, Remus' world seemed to collapse right under his feet. He had been convincing himself that Callisto could never like him for so long, that he couldn't really process the fact that what he was longing for could ever be true.

Callisto Claire was in love with him. Out of all the people she could have, she had fallen for him.

Remus found himself doubting Sirius' words. Maybe his friend had misunderstood or maybe, Callisto had joked about it and Sirius thought she was being sincere. How could she ever be in love with him?

Unconsciously, his fingers trailed over the new scar on his arm, serving as a reminder of who he was and all he couldn't have.

"No, you must have misunderstood."

"I haven't." Sirius insisted. "She told me the night we went camping. She was drunk, she saw you sleeping with Dorcas and she told Marlene and me."

"There you have it then." Remus mumbled. "She was drunk. She didn't know what she was saying."

"Drunk words are sober thoughts." James smiled, nudging his shoulder. "Besides, why would she not like you? You're Remus freaking Lupin!"

"That's a reason for her not to like me."

Sirius sighed, "You do understand that at least 70% of Gryffindor has crushed on you at some point, right?"

"Callisto isn't a Gryffindor."

"For good reason." James commented. "But, she is in love with you, mate. Why don't you want to accept that?"

"Because it can't be true." Remus answered, lifting up his sleeve to reveal the scars from his previous full moon transformation. "Why would she want that? She could easily find someone better. Someone who's more handsome, smarter, more charming, richer and won't want to rip her to shreads every fucking full moon. How on Earth would she be happy with me?"
